Let’s Carve – A Pumpkin Carving Playdate for the Little Ones

Oh Fall, how I love you!  And you Halloween, you are just so fun!  I can’t get enough of you!  And now that Court is getting older, I love you even more!  He has been so excited for everything Halloween this year.  Decorating our house, watching spooky movies, did I mention we’ve been to Home Depot at least 10 times to see all the spooky decorations?!

But number one on that list is carving pumpkins!  We have literally carved 4 different pumpkins and Halloween is still weeks away, haha!  I wanted to put a little pumpkin carving playdate together for him and his little friends, and today I’m sharing it with you!  Now, let’s carve!

Designing this one I was inspired by Bash Party Goods plates with this retro vibe… It reminded me of our laid back lifestyle down here in Southern California living by the beach.  That also helped inspire the invite that Poppy Jack Shop created so perfectly!  And how about that pretty orange bougainvillea?!

I remember carving pumpkins when I was young.  My mom always made everything so fun and festive.  We would carve our pumpkins, make pumpkin seeds and admire them on our front porch.  I always say this, but it’s so much more special to see these holidays through our kids.  My mom’s influence of making everything so special is probably why I want to do it with my little ones.

There’s something about a classic Jack-O-Lantern, am I right?!

I just can’t with these two cuties….

And on to the tablescape!!!  I am a huge fan of bougainvillea, I had it all over my wedding.  But this peachy orange one is just amazing!  I really wanted to use it for the florals on this table.  Lucky me, Rooted & Wild made my dreams come true!  She added some pretty roses, succulents and put it all on top of a green pumpkin, genius!!

Here are those amazing plates that I was talking about!!  I fell in love with them a while ago when I saw them at my favorite party shop, Wild Child.  They always have the best of the best for any party!  With Halloween around I mixed in a little black with the flatware and signage.  Courtney from Poppy Jack made the cutest stir sticks and a big “Let’s Carve” sign, since that was what this party was about!

Each little place setting got a little pumpkin with a name card by Poppy Jack!  Perfect little treat to take home!

On to the real star of the day, the desserts!  I wish I had a video of how big the kid’s eyes got when they saw these!  Beverly’s Bakery created the sweetest treats that were perfect for our playdate.  Those cake pops look like the plates, and I nearly died when I saw them!  And with cookies as big as your head, well, you can’t go wrong!

Happiness in a photo, haha!

Here’s some more of these cuties, just being cute….

These little classmates, just chatting it up!

Brothers actually sharing!  I can’t believe this was caught on camera, haha!

Little Olivia said, and I quote, “This was the best EVER!”

Yup, just living their best lives!!

Hope this inspires you all to have some fun with your kiddos for Halloween!

xx

A Fall Wreath DIY That is Beautiful and Easy to Create

As we continue with all the Fall fun, we’ve gotta have more DIY’s!  Today’s DIY is all about getting your front door ready for visitors.  You may remember this DIY from last year, but we’re ready for an update!  This Fall wreath DIY is beautiful and easy to create, thanks to Olive & Blooms.

Photos by Lyndsey Yeomans

Owner Lily Roden designed and created this boho goodness that would look good on any door.  What I love most is the peace sign wreath, because everything is better with a peace sign!  Keep scrolling for all of her easy steps!

Grab your shears, floral wire and a fun twig wreath!

Pick some foliage… make sure you select a variety 2-4 different types in order to introduce texture and different shades to your wreathe. I chose seeded eucalyptus, acacia and some fun fall foliage.

Next choose some flowers and fun fillers. For this wreath I chose Caramel Antik garden roses, millet and berries!

Start by grouping some foliage with your fingers… almost making a tiny bouquet of different heights. Lay it flat on your wreathe and begin to attach it by wrapping the base of your mini foliage bouquet with wire. Repeat this step a few times by overlapping foliage groupings until you fill the desired portion of your wreathe. For this piece, I only filled the left part of the wreath because I loved the natural look of the twigs.

Next cut the stems of blooms at the very top and attach it to your wreath with floral wire. You can puncture the base of the head of the bloom with wire and wrap the wire around your wreath to make sure it stays in place.

You can then add some fun filler by feeding it through the groupings you have already attached!

Last step, hang it up on your door!  And wait for all the compliments ;)

Hope you can make your front door this cute too!

xx

I’m Here for the Boo-ze – A Halloween Bar Set Up

How do you get ready for Halloween night?!  Costume, check!  Trick or Treat bag, check!  Candy, check!  But what about the boo-ze?!  Well if you’re entertaining this Halloween or just want a reason to deck out your bar, I’ve got you covered!  This year we are having a few friends over with their kiddos Halloween night and I’m so excited!  I thought to myself, what does a parent who has their kid hopped up on sugar need?!  Ansewer: A DRINK!  So decking out our bar was a necessity!

Photos by Lyndsey Yeomans

Let’s start with this amazing signage from The Roc Shop!  That girl is so darn creative, she always has great pieces for every occasion.  I knew she wouldn’t disappoint on Halloween either!  Plus, her cocktail stirrers are the cutest little detail for each guest’s glass.  I love having the little details for people, they never go unnoticed!

I know Halloween is all about the black and orange, but I steered a little away from too much orange for this.  Gotta do it the Beijos way of course!  The gorgeous floral arrangement is by Olive & Blooms – more to come on that beauty later!  But I love how she used such pretty Fall colors and foliage, plus a little peek of pampas grass.  Definitely a showstopper!

The talented Cindy from Blot & Dot took her turn at the pumpkins!  Her calligraphy and witty puns always make me smile.  You may remember our similar collaboration last year for this playdate.  The wire pumpkins were a Target find!  I try to steer clear of the cheesy Halloween decor, much to the dismay of my 3 year old, and these definitley made the cut!  I think they are pretty timeless, don’t you?!

The glassware is from The Little Market, one of our go to shops for anything home.  I saw their new black and white collection from Morocco and fell in love!  These have a little bit of Beetlejuice meets Boho going for them, no?  Just add some of The Roc Shop drink stirrers and you’re good to go!  These glasses are so pretty, they will definitely get used again!

Now, you can’t have a Boo-ze bar without the BOO-ZE!  This black Freixenet sparkling wine bottle caught my eye.  A black bottle on Halloween is so spot on!  Doesn’t get more festive than that!  Your guests will love how detailed you were, and they will obviously love you for serving them a drink!  So pop some bubbly and enjoy with your guests on the creepiest night of the year!

And, yes that’s a magnum, and yes we do plan on drinking that whole thing!

Cheers!

xx,

Jacquelyn

Shop my Target finds for making your bar stand out, plus those cute little pumpkins re in there too!

Jungle Party – Cruz Turns One!

Well, my second son has turned one!  Cruz turned one in August and we celebrated with a jungle party!  Get it?!  Jungle Cruz?!  We went all out with a fun party for all the kids, even big brother Court.  And really, our theme was perfect because it was the hottest week of the year and we have no air conditioning!  So… It was a hot sweaty mess full of lots of happy faces celebrating our little man!

Boy parties can be tough… There are only so many themes you can do and to be honest only so many decor options.  I find myself doing succulents most of the time because it’s difficult to find florals that work for a boy’s party.  But this was the perfect opportunity to switch it up!  I was excited to showcase how to do a “tropical” party for a boy and really love how it turned out!

This party is also featured on 100LayerCakelet and Lauren Conrad today!

Photos by Megan Welker

Let’s start with this photo, I mean… I can’t even!!  It turned out better than I could have ever imagined!  I had asked my dear friends over at Wild Child Party to make an amazing balloon installation and they blew my mind.  We decided on colors and they came up with this amazing piece!  Rooted & Wild added the perfect amount of greenery to make it even more amazing.

I found the animal masks on Amazon, I love how they looked on the wall!  I really wanted to have a large sticker made saying “Cruz is One” but didn’t have the time in the end.  But my Letterfolk sign worked perfectly!

The cakes were by Sweet & Saucy Shop, they never disappoint!  I had them do mud cloth printed cakes and they were so amazing you guys!!  My friend Courtney from Poppy Jack did the cake and cupcake toppers in wood.  And how pretty is that floral arrangement by Rooted & Wild?!  See, boys can have flowers at their party too!!!

My other buddy, Meghann Miniello, did the invite and all of the signage.  Isn’t this so perfect for a jungle party?!

When you have a first birthday, you have to have a few details!  Like, celebrating each month and where your little one is at by th time they turn one.  Here is how we showed off our Cruz!  Monthly numbers by Poppy Jack with photos from Artifact Uprising, and a cute 1st Birthday sign from Meghann Miniello.

We kept the fun going outside with more balloons from Wild Child Party, because really, is there ever enough?!  The girls at Witty Rentals provided the best lounge area for our guests, I love love love their inventory!!

I wanted to add some macrame pieces to the party, lucky for me Mackenzie of Rooted & Wild makes macrame too… A woman of many talents that one!!  Love her!

Here’s me and my crew!!!  Love my boys so much!!  And yes, Cruz is ours, he’s our blondie!!

Doesn’t end there!  I had tables for the kiddos of course!  All the big kids were set to eat their treats in the best setting!

The napkins are from Hostess Haven, Meghann did the placemats and Courtney did the drink stirrers and calligraphy on the palm leaves.  Jeez, I’m seriously so lucky to have so many great friends in this industry!

Rooted & Wild killed it again with the florals!!

In addition to the yummy cakes we had paletas!!  Paloma’s Paletas has the cutest cart set up.  And with the heat factor that weekend, they were the perfect treat for everyone!!

I need to talk about my god daughter Edie… She came in character!!  I love her so much!!!  This girl had to wear her leopard print dress and cat ears for the jungle party.  She’s just too much…

We had face painting from OC Face Paint, the kids seriously loved it!!  They could get any jungle animal they wanted and they definitely acted out the parts!  Ha!

Court took his pretty seriously…

Nash is such a cutie pie!

Pretty Isla Bird!

Paleta time!!

The little guests got to take home a bag of goodies in a cute bag by Meghann

And time for cake for my little birthday boy!!  Cruz is living his best life, and I feel so honored to be his mama!  This past year he has made our family whole and even happier than we could have imagined.  He is honestly such a love and so dang happy.  I can’t get enough of his smiles, love you Cruzy!!  To the moon and back!

Thank you to all my friend-ors who made this day possible!
