Jeff + Maureen – Cayucos Wedding

By March 13, 2017 No Comments

Meet Jeff + Maureen.

They are a free-spirited, warm-hearted, and creative couple that got married in Cayucos, Ca. A free-spirited 1960’s coastal California style wedding that truly matched them as a couple, and their love for macrame, VW buses, vintage pieces, family and friends, and most of all the location itself. Cayucos is a small, relaxed beach town that Maureen grew up vacationing to every summer. It’s a special place for Maureen + Jeff, and there was no hesitation that this would be the spot where they become Mr. and Mrs. With the town being tiny, they were limited on venues. The answer? Take over the entire bluff and design the layout from scratch. I can’t forget to mention how much FUN Jeff had designing the whole layout; he went as far as creating it all in CAD. Their vision, style, and who they are as one truly shined throughout this special day.

This wedding is also featured on Green Wedding Shoes today!

Maureen’s Tara Lauren dress from Bride Boutique LA was meant for that coastal breeze, so beautiful!

Cayucos. The tiny beach town along California’s central coast has always been a special place for us. I grew up vacationing there with my family; after Jeff’s first visit, he instantly fell in love as well. When we started to plan, it was evident that not only Cayucos going to be the place, but that the beauty and charm that the Central Coast had to offer would influence the overall design.

  Now for the ceremony…

This was such a dreamy space that overlooked the ocean. Vintage rugs from Witty Rentals that were overlapped created one lovely aisle that leads up to a macrame backdrop adorned with greenery and flowers by Clover & Branch. Did I mention that Jeff and Maureen built the macrame backdrop! Yes!

The ceremony. When we started arranging it, we realized it was our opportunity to speak directly to our guests. We wanted them to see who we are as a couple. We wrote our own vows about our relationship, and we had friends and family give short speeches to illuminate who we are as individuals and how we will be as partners to each other.

At one point in our ceremony, after we had just exchanged our rings, my cousin Brian, an accomplished singer-songwriter, surprised our guests and played an acoustic version of “Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel. It is a song that has deep meaning for both Jeff and I. It is about the circle of life and the acceptance of death (family and friends who have passed on) and celebration of life — to enjoy each other and try our very best to love and “count every beautiful thing we can see.” That moment for me, looking at Jeff and out into the crowd and hearing the words of the song surrounded by the sea and the sun was indescribable. My heart just completely burst.

This creative duo created not one but two macrame backdrops. We used one as a place for guests to find out where they were seated. Good pal Meghann Miniello created custom jewel toned cards that were placed among macrame and floral goodness.

The couple collected their plates, vases, and goblets from thrift stores and flea markets which gave every one of their friends and family something unique at their table. Wooden laser cut names by Meghann Miniello and fans were placed at each place setting. For one special guest, a happy anniversary plate to remind him that Jeff + Maureen were thinking of him. Little details that show how much love the couple have for their family and friends.

The rest of this magical night was spent under the stars laughing, getting silly in the VW Bus Photo Booth, and one killer dance party. Congrats Maureen and Jeff!
