Off the Shoulder Style

If you haven’t been living under a rock, then you know that the off the shoulder trend is one of this Spring’s top styles. We saw it peak its head last summer, but it’s making its way to the top pick this spring. We are under their spell, and loving every bit of it. A combination of sweet and sexy that has us craving more…. more… more!

Jacquelyn’s Hair by 1011 Makeup

You can shop all our looks at the bottom of our post!

First, we have Jacquelyn wearing this flowy Maison Dress by MLM Label, and this spicy colored number is effortlessly perfect for this spring. Jacquelyn loves this dress cause not only is it timeless and can go from season to season, but it’s also breastfeeding friendly.

Paired with her favorite spring essentials: Cleobella Mexicana Clutch, suede mules by Matisse, and her trusty Wyeth Eyewear Calyer.

Loving the mini off the shoulder as much as we do? Here are some other numbers we love for this spring.

Off the Shoulder Shift Dress | Self- Tie Off the Shoulder Dress | Casita Dress by Show Me Your Mumu | Dev Off the Shoulder Minidress

Next up, I’m wearing this Sheer Bliss Dress by Amuse Society in Black Sands that I bought on Revolve. I love Amuse Society case you find it on Revolve, Amazon, and even at Nordstrom now. The best part is that they are super affordable. Can’t beat that!

Paired with my Wyeth Eyewear Baxter in Opaque Champagne and Lilac Gladiator Sandals. Yes, I have the same pair in different colors. When you find a sandal at Target that is stylish and affordable, you buy them in all the colors! I also got them when they were having their BOGO sale.

More flowy floral gems that we have all the heart eyes for!

Hacienda Maxi Dress in Poppy Daze | Joie Avatara Maxi in Dark Navy | Tularosa Henderson Maxi Dress | Samba Gown

Now, I really love this little number on Jacquelyn. This embroidered Rebecca Minkoff Celestine top can be worn all thru spring. The eyelet embroidered pattern is also another spring trend, so you are double in style now! To complete the look, pair with some white denim cut-offs, nude sandals, and sunnies. Now you have a spring staple to add to your closet.

More eyelet off the shoulder tops!

Eyelet Ruffle Off the Shoulder | Eyelet Off the Shoulder Crop Top | Forever 21 Eyelet Top | Sea Eyelet Top

Now, our last look. Let’s just talk briefly about mom jeans. When I was a young little know it all in the 80’s, fluffy bangs and all, I thought mom jeans were worn strictly just to humiliate your child at school pickup. Well, now as a mom I had to give it a try right? It was time to come full circle. Being 5’2 1/2″ (yes! I count that 1/2 inch), there are a lot of styles I just can’t pull off due to the lack of my stems. But, I gave it my all and wore those moms jeans like no one’s business. I have to admit they are comfy. However, the debate is still out on them.

I paired those bad ass jeans with the flouncy Pretty Lady Tee by Free People. A perfect tee to cover that wiggle jiggle arm action I like to hide. I tucked in the shirt for full mom jean effect and paired with my Lilac Gladiators by Mossimo, and Wyeth Eyewear Dilworth sunnies. Easy off the shoulder action attire you can wear everyday around town, or show up to school and embarrass this generation’s know it alls.

Some other favorite white off the shoulder tees if this one doesn’t tickle your fancy.

Let’s go show off those sexy shoulders, ladies!

Happy Easter Sunday!

Sadly, all the cute Easter bunny ideas are coming to an end today, but that just means its time for Cinco de Mayo inspiration! Yay! It will be here in no time. Yesterday I was on Amazon of all places and found so many fun tees to wear on several days leading up to and on Cinco de Mayo. Today is just round one of all the inspiration we have for this fiesta. Stay tuned! Until then, check out all these cute tees. There are so many fun ones; I kinda want to buy all of them. Eek!

Mate the Label is one of my favorite lines for cool vintage tees. It is a Los Angeles-based company, and they have a collection of vintage inspired graphics that embody the California-cool lifestyle. Pretty sure between Jacquelyn and I we have all of these. Now that I know they are on Amazon, this might be dangerous for the wallet.

MATE THE LABEL WOMEN’S ‘NOT YOUR MAMACITA’ TANK TOP

I just wore this one yesterday! My personal favorite one, it goes with anything. Pair it with some denim and a cool kimono, and you are all set. The color combination of blush, denim blue, and white makes for a perfect spring tank.

MATE THE LABEL KYLE LONG SLEEVE ADIOS PANTALONES OCHRE

This one is currently in my cart. The simplicity of this cozy long sleeve tee that is made with a super soft fabric is perfect for running around town. Pretty sure you will want to live in this vintage tee.

MATE THE LABEL WOMEN’S ‘MARGARITAS FOR SEÑORITAS’ NECK T-SHIRT

Calling all margarita lovers! This one is for you ladies! The margarita queen herself, Jacquelyn has this tee, and I’m pretty sure she wears it at least a couple of times a month. When you’re a margarita lover, you gotta let people know what’s up!

MATE THE LABEL WOMEN’S SPICY TANK

This last one is another one that is in my cart. This vintage muscle tee says it perfectly. Spicy! Add a little spice to your life.

Did I just make you fall in love with Mate the label? Pretty fun tees, and even better you can buy them through AmazonHave to love Amazon; you seriously can find everything on there, and it will be here in no time. Pat yourself on the back for having your Cinco de Mayo outfit already and Easter isn’t even begun for most of us. Hopefully, my little bunnies sleep in a tad bit longer.

Wishing you and your family a Happy Easter today! Now if you will excuse me, I have some shopping to do while sipping on a mimosa.

Beijos Easter Baskets

It’s our annual Beijos kid’s Easter Basket post and we have some good ones for you!  Every year we try and come up with fun and new creative ideas for our little ones.  Well, now between the 3 of us we have 7 kids!!!  It’s getting tight up in here!  So instead of doing a bag for each of our kids, because seriously who wants to scroll through that novel, we did three categories.  We have a baby basket, a girl basket and a boy basket!  Simple and easy!

Another thing we try to do is find unique baskets, and I think this year’s are the best yet!  We asked our dear friend and soul sister Monica of Boho Pillow to create some boho-dreamy baskets…. And boy did she come through!  Check them out below!!  For more baskets, and just overall amazing stuff, head to her site here!!

Let’s get started with the baby basket I curated!  So, I really tried with all my might to go gender neutral here, but as a true boy mom, it definitely reads more boy…. What can I say, those boys have completely taken over my life, and now my mind!!!  Haha!!  I think the basket is perfectly gender neutral though and would also make a great gift for a baby shower!  You can stuff it full of goodies and the mama to be can place it in her nursery for storage!

Let’s talk about some of my baby Easter picks!  I went with a sort of Lion theme after being inspired by the cutest art piece by my favorite Daniella Manini.  That lion art would look adorable in any kid’s room!  And when I saw the sweet little hand knit lion doll from The Little Market I knew that was where I wanted to go!  Now, every baby needs a good swaddle and Modern Burlap’s are the best.  I love the cloud one because it is cute for both a boy and a girl!

Cruz is teething like a wild man and I knew I wanted to include a teether.  I could spend hours shopping on Noble Carriage’s site because everything is so darn cute, but what really draws me in is the attention they pay to things being organic and sustainable.  I thought the pretzel teether was the cutest thing ever and the fact that it has natural antibacterial properties is pretty amazing.

Two of my go to brands as a mommy since having both of my boys are Bink & Boo and Wee Vintage Baby.  So it was a no brainer including both of them!!  Bink & Boo has the most adorable little baby booties in all sorts of colors and fabrics.  These striped pair are called the Smith and the retro 70’s vibe of them just caught my eye immediately.  For Wee Vintage Baby I thought her bloomers would be perfect for the upcoming warmer days and I must say, Cruz’s thighs have never looked more delicious.

Lastly, I think taking care of baby’s skin is always a priority so I got a few products from Zoe Organics to toss in.  Bath time is one of my favorite times of the day so I did their baby gift set which includes bath wash, a baby oil and a diaper balm.  All definite essentials for any baby & mama duo!!

All photos by Ari Moshayedi

Next up, our little Girl Basket!  Abby curated this one for her daughter Dylan… I can only dream of the fun stuff behind a little girl’s basket, still working on the husband on that idea!  But anyhoo…  How cute is the pink basket by Boho Pillow?  I love the fabric she used here!  Now this basket is fully stocked, I think the Easter bunny is going broke this year!! I mean Dylan is one lucky girl!

Let’s start with the sweetest little bunny doll from Noble Carriage.  Every little girl needs a stuffed bunny on Easter and this one by Hazel Village is the ultimate!!  Did you catch our Easter playdate feature yesterday that had tons of Shop Leo Kids goodies in it?!  Well Abby must have because she is adding a cute little weaving and garland in Dylan’s basket for her room!

Another Easter must have are floral bunny ears from JL Designs.  These are the ultimate Easter accessory!  Speaking of accessories, this little girl’s basket is set with a cute pair of sandals for Spring, heart shaped sunnies, a new raffia bag and cute bracelets (here and here) from our girl Julia at Gunn & Swain.

Abby didn’t stop there, one of our favorite brands to shop for ourselves is Jen’s Pirate Booty so why not match our little ladies by gifting them their own kaftan?  Let’s keep going shall we??  The Easter bunny can’t stop now, he’s on a roll!  A swimsuit is a must have for Spring/Summer, and this cute one piece is so adorable, and also on sale!  To round up this loot, you’ve gotta have a good bunny book!  Definitely an Easter essential!

Now, in my next life I’m coming back as Abby’s daughter, holy moly!

Last up we’ve got the big boy basket that Abby curated for her son Jett!  This basket by Boho Pillow might be my favorite, I love the olive color!  I could definitely see this being used in any home because it’s really such a neutral color!  But my first thought for a boy… Lego storage!!!

Ok, let’s jump right in!  Speaking of Lego’s, Abby found the coolest wooden legos on Amazon!!  Now these are some Legos I wouldn’t mind being left all over my floor and stepping on… Hmm… Maybe I take that back…  Let’s keep going with big boy essentials and add some fun retro cars! Both of these are so cute to put on display or to play with, check them out here and here.

Now, we’ve gotta make sure our boys are looking cute this Spring so let’s talk clothes!  We mentioned our love for Bink & Boo and their baby booties, but you know we also love their Ankle Biters!  The raddest little pant for Spring and Summer!  You might remember from last Summer that our favorite board shorts for our kiddos are by Seaesta Surf, so we had to include them!  Stay tuned, she’s dropping some new prints very soon!!  You can pair each of these bottoms with a rad tank like Abby did!!  And don’t forget the shoes, we always love a good pair of Vans.

Last but not least, some good reading material.  I don’t know about you, but my boys are wild and the one time of day they actually sit and cuddle with me is when I read to them… So, books are a must!!  Abby picked out these three for her little man…  Horton Hatches an Egg, Mr. Tiger Goes Wildand Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?

There you have it!!  Another Easter wrapped up for our kiddos, pretty luck ones right?  Now… Let’s start saving for next year’s baskets now, shall we??

Spotlight: Obsessed With Essentials

This past holiday season I decided to take the plunge into the ever popular essential oils.  I have seen this little revolution happen all around me for the past 5 years and little by little it peaked my interest.  I never bought into it though until I started seeing for myself the incredible benefits that can be had from using these all natural resources.  Some of these stories include avoiding sickness altogether, most commonly the cold and flu virus, headaches, anxiety, allergies, receiving natural boosts energy, getting a good nights sleep and the list goes on!!  You mean I don’t have to medicate myself with over the counter drugs constantly when one of my family members or myself is experiencing these common ailments??  All natural did you say???  Ok I want to know more….and although I felt late in the game when I finally invested in this fabulous phenomenon, I felt the need to share all the knowledge that was at my fingertips.  This was all too good since we live in a world where we are constantly striving to use only the best to promote health and wellness for our loved ones.  It’s what it’s all about right??

All photos by the lovely Megan Welker

So like I said this past holiday season, I told the hubby I wanted some oils to jumpstart my collection.  He was all for it, so I went the guru herself.  She is a dear friend of ours here at Beijos and we recently visited her lovely home so she could educate us a little.  It’s the wonderful Melody Brandon, who also co- owns the ever popular  and yummy Sweet & Saucy Shop!! How does she have time for this being a bakery owner, a mama and investing her time into her newest passion with these essential oils?? Who knows…she’s what we call a super mom!! You need to follow her instagram feed over on Life on Loma to see this super mama in action.  Anyway, here is what she has to say…

How and when did you discover your connection with essential oils?
I started looking for more natural health solutions when I got pregnant with my daughter Blake about 5 years ago and started having to question why things like why best friend “Excedrin” weren’t allowed haha.  I always had grown up in a home that used modern medicine for everything and wasn’t really aware of all the side effects that it can have on you, so when it came time to prepare for having my own little one I quickly realized how helpless I felt and started to research natural health options.  I had never heard the words “essentials oils” until I was 28 years old and when I saw my sister in law using them on her kids and singing their praises I knew it was something I needed to look into more.  I found out that actually SO many people were using them and I made the jump and got my first kit with Doterra for a Christmas present and have been obsessed ever since!

How has this obsession affected your life and your family?
It has been the biggest blessing ever.  I rarely, if ever, have to go to the doctors office, pay co pays, worry about what to do when my kids are feeling sick, etc.  My son who is 2.5 years old has never even had to be on any type of over the counter medication…definitely a huge time and money saver!  They not only have helped with physical health issues but are amazing for mental health too.  I am a busy mom with two businesses and absolutely love using them daily for hormonal support, stress, energy, etc.  Helping my friends and family use essential oils has been such a joy too and now that I share my passion on my personal Instagram account I have even got to connect with people in other countries!  Getting a text, call or email from someone saying their children finally slept through the night, their allergies actually went away, they haven’t had the domino effect of sickness every month in their family, and on and on really does make me so happy to share my passion and love of essential oils with not only my family, but others as well!

Tell us more about these cute little roller bottles you make?
Well since I have an addiction for anything gold and I hadn’t found anything that I loved look wise for roller bottles and labels that didn’t break the bank I decided to make them myself.  I had Tina Yang from @missmultee custom write them, then get them printed at a local sign shop and then I adhere all of them myself…can we say labor of love haha.  I love spoiling anyone who wants to join this oil journey with me so they always get some for free and then can conveniently have them in their purse or bag so they can use their oils throughout the day.

Give a the recipe for a common blend…
One of my favorite daily perfume blends that not only smells amazing but is also great for anxiety, stress and mood is Balance and Wild Orange. It is so refreshing as well since all citrus oils smell so yummy! I do 10-20 of each oil in a 10 ml roller bottle and then fill up with fractionated coconut oil.  I apply it to my wrists, back of the neck, temples or behind the ears!  I also place these oils on diffuser jewelry when I wear them!

What is your most used blend?
One of my most used blends is my “sanity” blend aka my “hotmess blend” for when I feel stressed out and am losing it!
It is 5-7 drops of these 6 oils…
Console
Serenity
Balance
Clary Sage
Peace
Peppermint

What is your advice to the essential oil beginner?
I say the most important thing is to be plugged into a essential oil community that can help you learn, answer your questions at 12am when you are freaking out over what to do for a fever, and offer you lots of continuing education so that you actually use your essential oils and don’t let them sit in a box in your cupboard!  That is my I love our private Facebook group, Obsessed with Essentials, because I found that having a support group was the main thing lacking for the essential oil community at large and it really is the deal breaker in your essential oil journey I feel like!

What is the best kept secret about this oil revolution?
That there really is an oil for EVERYTHING!  No joke…from bug bites, to panic attacks, fevers, immune support or just a replacement for that toxic candle in your home, essential oils really are so versatile and once you start, you really can’t stop!  As far as a specific oil that is most underrated I would have to agree with my girlfriends Jesi Haack and Carissa Jowett and say that Vetiver oil is AMAZING and they wish they had known about it earlier!  The smell is so unique and earthy and both of them are addicted to diffusing it.  It is also the top oil for ADHD, great for anxiety, mood, and sleep among other things.

What is your favorite blend?
I absolutely love the “Anthro blend” for diffusing during the day in my house instead of candle. It is White Fir, Citrus Bliss, and Grapefruit!

Can you believe all of this amazing information???  Well it’s only a snippet so if you want to more and get plugged in with an essential oil community or watch a intro to essential oils webinar you can email Melody at obsessedwithessentials@gmail.com

So we can’t share this amazing info with out telling you about some other amazing things like making an all natural face toner!!

Interior Mood Board- Project Kitchen

Happy Monday! How was everyone’s weekend? Flew by too fast for me, as it always does. Last week, we did our Real Talk, and let you in on some fun news that Jacquelyn and I were getting to design our kitchens in our new homes this year. We are both so eager to start this process of creating our new space. It all starts with the most important room – the kitchen. The area where you gather around the most, where you entertain, talk about your day over dinner, the place you probably make the most memories. This was important for us to produce an atmosphere we would love to spend time in for years to come. Today we are giving you a little peek of what these rooms will soon look like. We can’t wait to show you the final product! Till then, we will share and document the process through our Instagram Story.

Let’s start with Jacquelyn’s Inspiration!

When we closed escrow on our new home earlier this year I was beyond thrilled but totally not prepared for all of the big decisions I was going to have to make.  We decided to redo our kitchen before moving into the house because we didn’t want to deal with all the mess while in there. We are also taking out a wall, which is a whole other story!

I’ve been pinning ideas for my kitchen for years, but when the time came to design my own, it was very daunting. My husband has had to bug me to make decisions or even go look at things; I think I was a little apprehensive about making such permanent decisions. Plus, I’m so busy with my day too, I guess I was worried about adding more to my plate.

At first, I wanted to go in the direction of doing more modern beach wood cabinets. I still love the idea and look, but ultimately a few things changed my mind. One, I was worried I would get sick of them and they would just be a fad. Two, they aren’t in stock and would take 8-10 weeks to deliver, this isn’t a huge deal but would slow down our moving process quite a bit. And three, I was worried they wouldn’t match the wood flooring we are doing, and once everything was installed, I would feel regretful.

Ultimately I decided on classic white cabinets, they’ll never go out of style, and my kitchen will always look nice and bright! Plus, they are in stock which is a huge factor! Haha! We are also doing a large island with leather bar stools. The island will be a granite with a Carrera marble look, and the countertops will be granite with a dark cement look. We plan on doing a white glossy subway tile backsplash and a Portuguese inspired tile behind the stove.

The main elements we love are clean white with some natural wood and blue Portuguese tile.  I’m really hoping it all comes together well and my vision works. It’s exciting and scary all at once, and I can’t wait to share the outcome with you!

Now for Abby’s Inspiration!

We are moving into a division in Rocklin, Ca that is called Whitney Ranch. This procedure is a tad bit different than buying a house already built, and even building a custom home on your terms. How it works is we picked the style of home from three different options. It ranges from classic to the Spanish style- which we picked. Inside the home, you already have the layout designed. It is your job to pick out all the design elements of the home in their design centers. We haven’t gotten to that part of the process yet, and I do have to say I’m a bit nervous if I’m speaking honestly. What if they don’t have the precise tile I want? Or what if I want the built in to go here and not there? It is so much to think about, and you want everything to be perfect. I mean this is probably one of the only times, well pretty much the only time that I will be able to design my home from top to bottom. March is when we start the process, so till then, I’m gathering all my ideas together.

The kitchen. The most important room in our home for our family. It is where we spend the majority of our time with each other. The kids are at the age where they have homework, so we are always at the kitchen table, soon to be island doing our homework. I love to cook dinner with them and have them hanging out near me. We always sit down together for dinner and take turns talking about our day. If one of us isn’t there and able to speak on the phone, we FaceTime them to include them. It’s something we have been able to keep going with my husband already up in Sacramento.

SO what is this kitchen going to be? For sure, I know that we will have all white walls. No doubt there. I didn’t want to do straight white cabinets cause that would just be too much white for me. We love the look of a cabinet with a little hint of grayish green in it. My husband was shocked when I showed him the color. I don’t actually play with any other colors in the house besides black and white. But this pop of color will be a great contrast to the rattan that I want to carry thru the house. I’m so in love with rattan. We will have rattan lighting above the dinner table and perhaps above the kitchen island. That is still out for debate. My husband isn’t a huge fan, so I have to pick and choose my battles. Shouldn’t he just say, “Do whatever you want love?” In a dream world, I suppose. Ha!

With the cabinets an off color, and white walls, we are going simple with the backsplash, a beautiful clean subway tile. The island will be a white stone top with hints of gray to bring out the cabinet color. We are doing light floors this time around. At our old home, we did a very dark color, and we didn’t like it at all. Once the kids and the pets were around, it was dust city. You could see everything, and I was finding myself sweeping at least three times a day. I’m excited to get some light blonde wood tile in there. We saw this wood like tile at one of the model homes, and it was durable, clean, and requires less maintenance than dark hardwood floors. Lastly, adding wooden elements into the mix with open shelving, and areas to display all my glassware and dishes. I have collected quite a lot through these years with the blog content. Don’t forget the bright colored runner that will make its way into the kitchen as well for that fun pop of color. I have been looking for the perfect one these days, quite the challenge to find it. I know she is out there somewhere!

What do you guys think? We would love to hear your thoughts!

xx

Abby
