Beijos Shower- Tropical Brunch

My little sister is getting married!! Yay!!!! I could not be more excited for her, and not mention all the fun I get to have planning all the festivities! When it came to styling and planning her shower, I knew that I wanted to do something that was budget friendly and it had to be tropical. Since we were little, we always spent our summers somewhere tropical. Our family loves everything tropical so I knew this would be a hit for my sister and all her very special guests. Enough chit chat let’s get to it!

This tropical brunch is also being featured on Inspired by This today!

Throwing a shower can start to add up, and before you know it… well your broke. You don’t have to spend a fortune on design, stick to a couple of details. I used my budget on the main elements like flowers, food + drinks, and some decor details.

The biggest thing that you can’t put a limit on is flowers. This makes any party look good. It’s a must in our books. You can totally do it yourself, although with planning the shower yourself it sure does help when you have a florist in your corner. We had Ali from Wild Child flowers that came in and killed it!

The tables were a challenge for me. I wanted to keep with the budget but wanted them to look perfectly tropical. An easy and cheap way to add detail and color are placemats. Simply just get an image online and print on a thick card stock. On top of the placemats, I used a wooden charger and a clear plate that had each guest’s name on it. I used a food safe marker and bought the clear plates at the dollar store. Add a flower on each plate for a wow factor. Little details like this will go far with your guests.

All these ideas you can do yourself too! Ali used various clear bottles at each table and used tropical flowers, blush and coral hues of garden roses, and greenery. We used round tables which were a nice change of the usual rectangle tables you see a lot.

Another budget-friendly aspect was the signage. I used acrylic signs and white chalk marker, this way you can re-use the signs again.

Now food tables need some love too. Tropical fruit and flowers in wooden bowls were added to the food and dessert table to give the tables an organic tropical vibe. I just love this look!

Now for the yummy part… Dessert!

Hilary from The Sugar Studio did a passion fruit cream that was out of this world! Toasted coconut on top was the cherry on top! No party is complete without cake either. Our local bakery, Susie Cakes made a pink funfetti cake which is the bride’s favorite. I added flowers for a pretty touch.

Don’t forget, a mimosa bar is a must for a brunch shower. My dad built the bar, and he did such an impressive job! A fern garland was added to the bar to add some tropical detail.

No mimosa bar is complete without our favorite champs from One Hope Wine.

Rose gold pineapple tumbler from was perfect for this tropical party.

A special appearance from the cutest little flower girls!

It was such a special day for my sister and our family, and we can’t wait for the big day!

Beijos Shower – Desert Cactus

Another Beijos sister is getting married this year, well all of our sisters are getting married this year…haha!  Us Beijos gals have been busy planning all their weddings and events.  Yeah, we know…lucky sisters right??  Well we really love planning for them because we love them dearly and we want them to have the best events possible.  The best decor, the best vendors and the best experience while it’s all going down. My sister is getting married in Santa Barbara in a little over a month, so we are getting close.  Together with my family and my sisters bridesmaids, we threw her a shower last month and they left the planning all up to me…I like it that way, full control to do whatever I wanted :) Her wedding is a Spanish rustic theme so I was leaning toward a fiesta theme, but wanted to stay away from that because it’s been done so much.  Somehow I came up with a desert cactus theme and ran with it. My first bit of inspiration was the colors for these invitiaions…

All photos by the talented Megan Welker

Also check out the shower featured on Green Wedding Shoes today too!!

Poppyjack Shop really killed it with these invites.  When I gave her the inspiration and color scheme she executed on point!

This little lounge I put together for my sister to open her gifts at was really cute…with the help of the gals at Adore Folklore, it came to life!

meganwelker-cactusshower-13 meganwelker-cactusshower-12

The tables…I had to have these copper chairs from Adore Folklore as well.  They were key!!

Can we talk about these flowers by MV Florals….these arrangements were bananas.  So unique and definitely a show stopper. We put a pretty big arrangement at each table and then lined the middle with pots of different cacti.

The glassware and napkins were none other than Hostess Haven. I used her copper tumbler with a yellow vintage glass and her blush napkins.  All tied with twine by a Poppyjack place card.

Can’t get enough of these tables…

Now on to the dessert…Beverly’s Bakery with this herringbone cake and cookies.  Not only was it pretty, but it was delicious!!

Here she is the Bridezilla…just kidding :) Love you Lana!!

Hehe, wouldn’t be your sisters blog if she couldn’t include a little tease…just like the old days!

Can’t believe you are getting married!! I’m beyond happy for you and Mike.  I truly wish you all the happiness in the world, take it all in and enjoy this time.

Cheers!! Hope you enjoyed some Desert Cactus Bridal Inspiration.  I sure had fun making it come to life!!

Beijos Mother’s Day Brunch

Couldn’t wait to share our Mother’s day table we did with some of our favorite vendors with you all.  You can also take a look at it here featured on SMP Living today.

We just love pampering our moms on Mother’s day, why not? They deserve it! It’s the least we can do to show our appreciation for the hardworking women out there that dreamt things for us before we could see them for ourselves, and made room for our plans before her own. We love our mamas! The primary inspiration came from the fact that we fell in LOVE with the soft hues of pink and mint from the Anthropologie tabletop.

The colors of the table top fit perfectly in the vision we had for this Mother’s Day table. When we think of Mother’s day we think soft, pretty, cozy but elegant at the same time. This table was all of those and more. We brought in some darker pinks with the talents of the florist designer Meghan of Flowers by Mae Mae. The tabletop arrangement was bananas along with the accents on the wall and at each place setting.

We also used a different napkin at each setting to change it up a bit, love all of the options!!

Over the top view of this table and insane floral arrangement…

We partnered up with the amazing Courtney of Poppy Jack Shop Calligraphy. We had a vision of a soft fabric for the menu and place card ribbon and she took it to the next level with the velvet flocked lettering, it came out stunning!!

Only the best for our moms took us right to serving the best food and wine with Coco’s Catering (contact info at bottom of post) and a pretty sparkly bottle of white wine from One Hope Wine. The food was not only good, but very pretty! Plus adding the finishing touch from the most talented photographer Megan Welker!

This avocado salad was so yummy and healthy too!!

meganwelker-table-135 meganwelker-table-137

The tinga tostadas with their Cuban flair were the perfect bites with just the right amount of heat!!

meganwelker-table-126 meganwelker-table-128

We can’t forget about dessert…these tres leche cupcakes were SO good…couldn’t stop with just one.

Don’t forget your fancy glitter wine bottle of One Hope for your mama!!

We hope we’ve brightened your day with lots of pretty inspiration for your moms this mothers day.  Make it special and have fun!

Xx Leah

Sunny So Cal Love – Bridal Shower Inspiration

If you follow along with us and our blog then you know that my sister and Beijos blogging bride Janna is getting married, in fact she’s getting married this Saturday!!! Eeek!!!!  It’s here and I can’t believe it!!  All of the planning is finally coming to fruition and I couldn’t be more thrilled, I can’t wait to share it all with you eventually.  Until then I am sharing her second bridal shower with you today, you may remember the first rosé inspired shower that I threw for her last Fall at my parent’s home in San Jose, this one was held down in Los Angeles where she lives.

Now let me say this, when your best friend and only sister is getting married you really want to go all out, and when you are an event designer you really really want to go all out and that is how I felt about my sister Janna.  The first step in designing anything for me is getting inspired by a theme or color concept and since her first shower had been very pretty and a bit more traditional I wanted this Southern Cali soiree to be a bit more playful and fun.  Janna met her fiancee Sean up north and they actually went to high school together, but didn’t date till much later after college and what not, to solidify the relationship he moved down to Los Angeles to live with her and the rest is history.  So I thought to myself, Southern California is where it all got serious, why not use that as my inspiration!  I was thinking palm trees and sunshine and that lead me to this fun and colorful event!  You can also see this shower on 100LayerCake today!!

Special thanks to Megan Welker for taking all the beautiful photos, all the lovely vendors who made it possible, my amazing mom and bestie/business partner Leah who helped me SO much, and of course her sweet bridesmaids who helped make it come together!  Now get ready for lots of sunshine, a whole lot of pretty and tons of bridal shower inspiration, here we go…

meganwelker-jannashower-11 The first piece of inspiration was finding Wilder California, I am obsessed with her art prints and the colors she uses inspired me so much for this shower, I love all of the soft pinks and the landscape shots of California she takes.  I used her prints as placemats for each guest which added a pop of color at each setting.  And how about the names by Poppy Jack on the terra cotta plates for each guest’s place setting?!  LOVE!!

meganwelker-jannashower-5 meganwelker-jannashower-37 meganwelker-jannashower-83 meganwelker-jannashower-23 Right away I knew I had to have Bloom Babes do the florals, not only are they the sweetest to work with but they always wow me with their choices of flowers and color combos.  Everything they created was perfection for this one!!  I love how they took my sunshine and palm tree inspiration and made it through florals, looking at their arrangements just make me smile!!  I added things like oranges and succulents along the tablescape to bring some extra pops of color!

meganwelker-jannashower-40 meganwelker-jannashower-67 Prim and Pixie designed the perfect invite complete with the words “Totally in Love” which kind of became the catchphrase for the shower, haha, gotta love that So Cal slang…  Love the color scheme, I mean is this invite perfect or what?!

meganwelker-jannashower-164 The lovely Courtney of Poppy Jack not only customized those amazing terra cotta plates but also wood signage with her pretty hand writing so each guest would know where they were sitting and what they were drinking ;)  We love her work, it’s always so whimsical and fun!!

meganwelker-jannashower-131 meganwelker-jannashower-133 And there’s the pretty bride to be herself!!  My beautiful sister Janna, looking just gorge!!

Image For the rentals I turned to Adore Folklore who has the perfect mixture of boho and mid century flare, plus those hot pink chairs just made everything pop!! And that lounge set up was so cute and perfect for this group of Southern California gals, we got to put our feet up and relax, with some cocktails of course!

meganwelker-jannashower-18 meganwelker-jannashower-92 Image-1 Hostess Haven provided the colorful tabletop and I love the mixture we used for glassware which really made everything pretty and interesting, plus adding Nic Roc’s custom stir sticks in each glass was the icing on the cake.

meganwelker-jannashower-32 meganwelker-jannashower-34 meganwelker-jannashower-45 meganwelker-jannashower-53 Image-2 meganwelker-jannashower-177 Speaking of pretty glassware, we needed something to fill it with!  Duh!!  And of course I served our favorite One Hope wine and champs!!  Plus we had some delicious palmomas, yum!!!  Everyone loved the sparkly bottles from One Hope, they were a hit!!  And how cute is that bar from Adore Folklore?!

meganwelker-jannashower-145 meganwelker-jannashower-117 meganwelker-jannashower-113 And of course we needed yummy desserts!!  I always love Hannah’s Bananas, they are delicious and refreshing, and of course everyone was loving them!!  It’s so nice to do something fun and different than the usual cake or cupcakes…

meganwelker-jannashower-309 meganwelker-jannashower-308 And now, a little bit from the bride and some more fun shots of this amazing shower!!

Here’s what Janna had to say:

Having my big sister be one of the brilliant minds behind Beijos Events, I knew that my bridal shower was going to be a showstopper; but what Jacquelyn and Leah were able to pull off (with the help of my beautiful bridesmaids) was truly amazing!  The shower was stunning, and even more importantly, SO fun!

Everyone was freaking out, since just the weekend before LA was hit with a serious rainstorm that had trees falling over and power lines down.  We were so lucky that the weather cooperated and the shower was a hit!  It couldn’t have been a more perfect Southern California day, to go with the Southern California themed shower.  My bridesmaids from New York and Chicago were especially happy to escape the winter weather and enjoy the sun!

I loved all the bespoke details – from the drink stirrers, to the chairs, to the terra cotta place settings…I could go on and on.  I’ve seen my sister pull off some incredible events, but even I didn’t think a shower could be that beautiful!  The best part of the day was getting the chance to celebrate with all the ladies I love most.

meganwelker-jannashower-9 Bridesmaids with the beautiful bride!!

meganwelker-jannashower-194 meganwelker-jannashower-30 meganwelker-jannashower-32 How adorable is Miss Finley?!

meganwelker-jannashower-301 Custom napkins are always a good idea…

meganwelker-jannashower-231 meganwelker-jannashower-85 Gorgeous bride and mother of the bride!!

meganwelker-jannashower-206 And there’s the very very soon to be Mr & Mrs!!!

meganwelker-jannashower-360 Hope I inspired you for your own upcoming showers!!!

Rosé All Day – Bridal Shower Inspiration

When your sister is getting married, you’ve gotta come in hot with a styled bridal shower, and that’s the situation I am in this year!!!  My sister Janna, our Beijos Blogging Bride, got engaged last January and is getting married April 2016!!  I couldn’t be happier for her, and as the maid of honor was beyond excited to start planning all of her fun festivities!!!  I mean I had to return the favor since she was so amazing to me while I was getting married!!  Without getting all gushy, she is my best friend and I love her beyond measure, so needless to say this has been a special time.

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-102 For her first shower (yes, I am throwing her two!!) we were in Northern California at our parent’s home.  Janna and I both live in Southern California, her in LA and myself in Orange County.  My mom and I wanted to throw a shower for her family and friends up there so they could celebrate this beautiful bride.  We had to do the shower somewhat early due to the possibility of wet winter weather, so we decided on October (my favorite month in Northern California) and we scored with a beautiful sunny day!

As far as the theme for the wedding, well, my sister loves her some rosé, so I thought why not!?  Let’s go all the way rosé and have some fun!!  I liked the idea of sitting back in the French countryside enjoying a nice glass of rosé on a hot summer day… Doesn’t that sound divine!?! The outcome was oh so pretty and I’m excited to share it with you here today, it can also be seen on Ruffled blog as well!

All photos by the delightful Yasmin Sarai

For the invite we chose this beautiful gold floral print from Minted, we love turning to them for paper goods!  They have such an amazing selection, I was so pleased with how these turned out, they fit with the design of the shower perfectly!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-3 For the florals we had the lovely Katie of Wylie Weddings create these beauties for each table and a few for the food and dessert display.  I fell in love with these vases from Anthropologie and knew I wanted to use them for a project, why not the French garden Rosé themed shower for my sister?!  I love what she did, the flowers looked like we had picked them straight from the French countryside…

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-78 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-71 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-69 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-72 The tables were adorned with glassware and china from Borrowed Blu, we chose a mixture of golds, soft pinks and whites.  Taryn of Twinkle and Toast was kind enough to do all of the place cards and signage.  My husband cut and stained the wood for them, gotta put those husbands to work sometimes ;)  We tied each ombre napkin with a strand of leather and added a sprig of rosemary from my parent’s yard.

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-66 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-67 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-62 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-103 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-75 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-77 One of my favorite parts of this shower was playing with these fun sayings on the signs, which Taryn from Twinkle & Toast wrote so beautifully… Janna loves a good glass of rosé just like any other lady, so I feel like these signs will definitely get some good use!!

Yes Way Rosé!!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-55 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-49 and of course, Rosé All Day!!!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-35 We got the Rosé and this lovely Rose & Elderflower sparkling drink from World Market, they have such a great selection and aren’t the labels pretty!?

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-24 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-164 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-41 We love the little details, and you may have seen us use these types of cocktail napkins before… What can we say, we like to add a personalized and special touch!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-53 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-58 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-37 So, my mom was in charge of the food, and boy did she deliver!!  Can you believe this spread!? That cheese plate had my sister’s name written all over it!!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-7 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-8 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-12 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-23 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-15 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-18 Last, but certainly not least, are the absolutely stunning desserts by our girl Hilary from Sugar Studio Bay Area… You guys, these desserts were literally the talk of the town!!  Our family and friends could not stop raving about them!!! If you are in need of any special treats for any event, she is your girl!!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-113 This lemon flavored petal shaped naked cake was an absolute hit!!!  My parents are still saying “that cake”!! Ha!  Also, loved the cake topper I picked up at Anthropologie!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-131 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-133 Then there were these rose petal shortbread cookies, ummm hello gorgeous!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-127 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-138 Now these… These are Rosé Gelee, one of the guests referred to them as “rosé jello shots”, and let me tell you, there wasn’t one left over ;)

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-145 These gorgeous works of art are Ispaphans, they were decorated macarons filled with lychee, rose and raspberry… YUM!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-150 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-149 And of course, one of my personal favorites, mini lemon and ganache tarts with beautiful edible flowers!

yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-120 yasminsarai-beijosevents-jannasbridalshower-123 It was a beautiful day for my beautiful sister and what’s most important is that she enjoyed herself and all of the guests did as well!  Hope we were able to give you some fun shower inspiration!!
