Tips For Hosting The Holidays

Hosting any holiday or get together can be daunting, no matter who you are. Of course, don’t get me wrong, hosting a holiday is a lot of fun with all the decorating and showing off your cooking skills, but you would be lying to yourself if you said it was easy. But don’t fret! With these tips I’m about to lay on ya, you will be hosting the holidays like a boss!

Setup The Night Before

Now, anyone should know that trying to do anything right before an event is just not the best decision. Shop the week of your holiday. I like to go at least 3 or 4 days prior. One, your fighting the masses… hopefully. Two, it is one less thing to worry about hours leading up to the holiday. And three, if you wait last minute, the chances of what you need will be gone. I like to go early in the morning the Sunday before; it is usually quiet and empty.

Along with getting your food prior, is set up. Do this as far in advance as you can. It is just another big task that you don’t have to worry about the morning of. I love to set up my table days before as well. I learned this tip from my grandma. She would always set her holiday table for Christmas Eve dinner up at least a month in advance. When we got older, it was fun to be included in her tradition of setting the table. Now, I like to install this into my kids. Plus, I have a pretty table to look at for weeks. To me, holidays tablescape are just as part of decorating for the holidays as trimming the tree.

Now, when it comes to your tablescape for the holidays, go simple. Of course, bring out the fancy flatware. For Thanksgiving, I like to go a little moody with my colors. Right now, I’m obsessed with nude and natural colors mixed with moody ones. I used simple, clear glassware, a pop of black from the flatware, and brought in a texture element with the marble plates. (Psst… these dishes are on sale right now, you should get pick some up!) More color was added from the gorgeous deep brown velvet tablecloth that I rented from Party Crush Studio. Not everyone has an arsenal of tabletop items sitting around in their house. A great tip is to rent! It is much cheaper to rent than to buy. Party Crush Studio has some beautiful linens that you need to check out. Renting liens isn’t just for weddings anymore.

Flowers! Flowers! Flowers!

Flowers… I can’t express how important flowers are for any dinner or event you are hosting. It makes everything better. Can you imagine a table without any flowers on top of it? Or sideboard with no flower detail? You’re pretty much having your holiday be half-naked, and I’m pretty sure you don’t want to be the person with the half-naked holiday. Flowers don’t have to break the bank either. You can do tiny arrangements, low profile ones, or even just add some greenery to your table. Jessica from Oak + Ash nailed holiday floral! These colors are out of this world, and did you see those nude colored carnations?!? Yes, carnations! Jessica did a low profile arrangement which I fell in love with. This allows guests to see each other while sitting down to eat. Added details like greenery wrapped around the flatware add a floral surprise. Tiny arrangments on the wine and dessert table to add life and color. Plus, pop of color to the Thankful leather sign, it just ties it all in! I can’t say enough how important flowers are to any event, small or large.

Personalized Details

Call me old fashion, but I think any holiday should still come with a formal invitation. Who doesn’t like getting invitations in the mail? I love to have people feel excited about coming over, and everyone loves getting something in the mail. Along with invitations, adding personalized details for the holidays brings your holiday up a notch. The details go a long way in people’s eyes. You are taking the time to make your holiday special and unique. Now, this is one of the best tips I can give you if you want to host the holidays like a boss. Get personal! Get unique! I had Leanna from David and Leanna create some leather goodies that I’m so “thankful” for. I love using signs for decoration for the holidays. She created a plum colored “thankful ” sign that I placed above my wine and dessert bar. As well as “the Guidos” deep green leather sign that I placed on the table. People need to know where they are eating right? Ha! My favorite is the custom leather napkin rings with the guests’ names on it. Alongside those, the leather rings were “thankful” coasters that I placed under the wine glasses. This pretty plum added more color to the table. It made the table complete. Little details like this will go a long way; I cant’ stress that enough. Finally, a menu that will tell guests what they will be dining on. I always like to make it clear what we are having.

Open The Wine Prior

Wine. You gotta have it. I always like to have a selection for guests to pick from. Of course, I always go with my favorite, One Hope Wine. Their wine is so yummy, and I always have guests calling me up after asking me, “What was that wine you served last night?”. A great tip to help save time, right before guests arrive and before you get dressed, open your wine. This will keep you from opening up bottles throughout the evening plus allows time for them to breathe. And I say open before you get dressed, no one likes wine on their holiday attire. Duh. Alongside my wine, I love to have some sweets out. One of the things I remember for holidays growing up was there was always chocolate or sweet treats out to nibble on. Another tradition that I like to continue in my family. When we were little, it was usually See’s Candies, and my grandmother still does this today. I switched it up a bit and got some yummy macaroons and chocolate truffles from Ginger Elizabeth in downtown Sacramento. These sweet treats are to die for! She has fall flavors right now that you have got to try! My personal favorite is the Cranberry Walnut Crisp.

Appetizers 1st, then Rest After

Hours leading up to guests arriving, seem to go by really fast! No matter how prepared you are. Especially if you have little ones running around, you know that you are likely not to get everything done the way you want. They always seem to find the perfect time to throw a tantrum or require your full attention. As long as your appetizers and wine are you, then the rest will follow after. Don’t worry about the food, the last thing you want is to be running around trying to get your appetizers out while guests are walking thru the door. Have those done; your guests will be occupied while you start on the food. My motto is appetizer and attire 1st, and the rest will soon follow. Plus, it makes it look like you have everything under control, which you do!

Have a glass of wine!

My last tip for the hosting for the holidays. Have a glass of wine before guests get there. Sit down, look at what you have accomplished, and pat your self on the back, cause you are hosting the holidays like a boss!

I hoped this helps you in your adventures later this week! Remember, it should be fun not a chore.

xx

A Modern & Simple California Outdoor Friendsgiving

One of the best things about living in California is the fact that we get to be outside all year round. Including the special days like Thanksgiving and Christmas! Often times you can find us barbecuing on these holidays! Each year my friends and I like to get together and have a Friendsgiving, it’s such a great kick off to the holiday season. This year we took advantage of the great weather and my friend Kevy’s newly renovated backyard! It was the perfect setting to gather us all and enjoy some delicious food and drinks.

This dinner is also featured on Style Me Pretty Living today!

Photos by Riley Starr Photography

Miss Multee created the gorgeous invite, her hand writing is beyond beautiful and set the tone for the evening perfectly.

The night started with the cheese board of all cheese boards from Colette’s Catering.  That is a great way to start a party if you ask me!  One Hope wine helped us pair each course with the perfect wine as well.  Wine and cheese, that makes everyone happy!

For the details we turned to Olive & Blooms for florals and again Miss Multee for menus and place cards. We used the colors of the tabletop and added in some deep berries and copper to finish it off. The beautiful florals lined the table and really brought a fall feel to the event, with a fresh and modern take. And everybody kept talking about the beautiful hand written menus, they were an ombre gold to copper that perfectly shined all night.

All of the pretty pillows and cozy blankets are from The Garage Collective, a local shop in Laguna Beach.  They have an amazing collection of home goods that I want through-out my entire house!

One of the things we don’t like about these get togethers is the clean up. I came across L’Entramise, a beautiful disposable line that was perfect for our table setting. Their pieces have a sleek and pretty look and are so well crafted. The best part was at the end of the night we could just toss everything away and not worry about the dishes!

Now, let’s party!!!  Pop some bottles!!

Love these girls!!  Friend time doesn’t happen nearly as much as I wish it did, but when it does it’s always fun!

Our friends at Colette’s Catering designed a menu with a modern take on Thanksgiving dinner. We had a delicious salad, roasted veggies and squab instead of turkey. They also put together a delicious dessert that had us all happy at the end of the. night.

Each year at this time I get a bit sentimental, it means another year is coming to an end. But ending it with great friends is always a good idea, and that’s why Friendsgiving is so special.

Cheers!!

Hope you’re enjoying the holidays with your friends as well!

xx,

Jacquelyn

One of the most anticipated holidays of the year is upon us…  Just two more days till New Years Eve!!!  This is THE holiday for getting the party started, and I did just that!  Usually when you think of New Years Eve you think of the typical black, gold, silver, white color scheme.  Well, I wanted to try something different this year, and since the tropical trend has been such a continuous favorite, that is right where my mind went.  So this year we decided on a tropical New Years Eve with Lulu & Georgia, and it turned out pretty amazing!

If you missed our New Year Brunch with Lulu & Georgia earlier this week be sure to check it out!  This tropical affair is all about fun colors and the essentials for the perfect celebration.  Keep scrolling to see the gorgeous photos from Heather Kincaid and be sure to head over to Style Me Pretty Living for even more fun!

I always have to start with a gorgeous invite, and who else but my girl Taryn from Twinkle & Toast.  Palm leaves and pink, sort of the perfect combination, am I right?!  She created all of the paper goods for this shoot.  And you’ll see that amazing custom confetti from The Confetti Bar and cutest cocktail stirrers from The Roc Shop through-out this shoot!

Everything used for this shoot from the furniture to the tabletop is from Lulu & Georgia!  So you can literally recreate this yourself!  These tropical palm leaf plates were the perfect addition to the table and really make it pop!  And I fell in love with the super tropical floral arrangement from the Bloom Babes!

It’s New Years Eve so you’ve gotta throw some confetti around!!

One of the most important spots on New Years Eve has gotta be the bar cart!!  The Zelia Bar Cart from Lulu & Georgia is so classic and modern, it will fit perfectly in any home!  Just add some pretty glassware and our favorite sparkly One Hope Champagne bottles!

Let’s Get Bubbly!!!

New Years Brunch with Lulu & Georgia

Now that Christmas is officially over there’s only one way to deal with our heartache…. Start making New Years plans!!!!  That’s right, 2017 is coming up and we’ve got you covered this week with tons of inspiration!!  Starting with this amazing New Years Brunch with Lulu & Georgia.  I was lucky enough to style and design the first birthday party of Vivian Mae, the daughter of Lulu & Georgia CEO Sara Brenner earlier this year.  I loved working with Sara so much I had to reach out to see if she would be up for some fun styled shoots.  Lucky for me, she was!

The idea of a New Years Brunch with my girlfriends just makes me smile!  After a night out of debauchery, spending the day lounging with your gal pals drinking mimosas sounds like heaven!  I had the best team of vendors on this one and I’m thrilled to have it featured on Glitter Guide today!  Keep scrolling to see all of the pretty details and get inspired to host a fab New Years brunch of your own!!  You’re gonna flip over all of the amazing Lulu & Georgia goodies!!

Photos by the talented Heather Kincaid

What pieces and details brought this party to life?

I have been a huge fan of the Elodie collection from Lulu & Georgia and Glitter Guide since the minute I saw it.  I love the mix of colors and print and thought it would be the perfect inspiration for this gathering at home!  I mean, who wouldn’t love to have that rug in their home?!  All of the vendors involved had so much fun creating pieces inspired by the Elodie, I especially love the invite Twinkle & Toast created that used the print and colors perfectly!

We love the concept of a New Year’s Day brunch! What inspired this type of holiday celebration?

I love it too!  NYE is always an amazing celebration but I like to keep the party going and love the idea of having a girls slumber party with fun festivities to continue the next morning!  Plus, we all could use a little hair of the dog the day after such a fun filled cocktail infused night out :)  And lastly, you want to start the new year off right with close friends and fun times, so this is just how you do that!

How gorgeous are the flowers by Bloom Babes?!  They go with the whole color scheme so well and they are exactly what you want to see to kick off a new year!

Tell us about the menu!

I love brunch foods, to me that’s the best meal of the day!  So for the menu I had to have something delicious but pretty as well!  There is an array of sweet and salty, which is also important to appease everyone’s taste buds.  Plus, some good hang over options for the ladies who had a little too much fun the night before

Custom menus, resolution cards, and really rad copper place cards by Twinkle & Toast.  Also, loving the custom cocktail stirrers from The Roc Shop!

What are three things every holiday party has to have?

Good food, yummy cocktails and festive friends!

How did you settle on that pretty pink color palette for the party?

I wanted something different for this NY celebration.  New Years tends to be all about black, gold and white but I wanted something different!  I love the idea of having a girls get together with these pretty hues and that soft pink really stole my heart!  The pretty pink Lulu & Georgia settee played off the colors of the Elodie rug so well and I just love the way it all turned out!

Now let’s get our models in here, who really know how to party!!  Especially when some One Hope champs is involved!  Bottoms up!

Best brunch playlist: go!

I’m really feeling the new Bruno Mars album and gotta have some Bieber!!

All of our models are keeping cozy in Show Me Your Mumu and looking pretty thanks to Fiore Beauty, and genetics of course ;)

Do you have any stress-free party-planning tips to share?

Do as much as you can the day before… Pre prep food, set up your home for everything you can, all of that tedious stuff.  The less you have to do the day of the more you can enjoy yourself and have fun!  Which is what planning and throwing an event is all about.

What are your New Year resolution for 2017?

Something I want to focus on is more time on myself, whether it’s working out, resting, reading more books.  Just finding time for me and taking care of myself!

Hope you enjoyed this New Years Brunch with Lulu & Georgia as much as we did!!  Now go out and plan that brunch and make it a dreamy affair like this one!

Styling your Home with Flowers for the Holidays

Christmas is this weekend and I want to make sure my homes (and yours!) is ready for all of the festivities!!  This year I’m styling my home with flowers for the holidays and teaching you how as well!  We often use flowers in events, it really is the easiest and prettiest way to beautify a space or setting.  What better way to make your home look amazing for the holidays than that?!  And I’m not just talking about your basic poinsettias people, I Beijo-fied these arrangements with the help of Honey Comb Affair.  I also threw in some fun LH Calligraphy goodies that are must haves any time of year!  Keep reading to see all of the pretty!

Photos by Megan Welker

The first place I floralized is the fireplace!  Now this is the focal point of the home, especially over the holidays.  I used this print from LH Calligraphy and framed it to add some merry cheer.  When thinking about the flowers I knew I didn’t want your basic Christmas florals.  I definitely wanted to think outside the box with a more bohemian feel, I sent Christy from Honey Comb Affair inspiration photos and she nailed it!!  Isn’t it refreshing to see something pretty and alive in your home like these gorgeous blooms?  Especially somewhere unexpected like the fireplace!

Here’s a little bit from Christy of Honey Comb Affair

“It was a fresh new twist on the Christmas color and texture, especially when it came to the greenery.
Instead of the standard winter greens, I used different varieties of eucalyptus, pods and birch twigs. The Flowers included red charm peonies, burgundy scabiosa, Amaranthus, and the protea flower for the ultimate boho feel. “

Next stop on our floral tour… The bar cart!!  Now, that’s my focal point, haha!  After being pregnant throughout the holidays last year you best believe I’m having some cocktails this year!  Having a little bit of a pop on your bar cart is important, it adds some color and looks pretty at the same time.  We love using loose blooms as well as arrangements when we style events, so take a couple and place them places in your home.  For the bar cart I placed some on a tray with glassware!  Add in some of our favorite One Hope Wine sparkly bottles and some LH Calligraphy accessories and you are good to go!

Loving the coasters and stir sticks for the holidays!!!

Last up, the coffee table!  Everyone gathers around this spot, so you better have it dressed up for the holiday season!  This is the no brainer of floralizing, the coffee table always needs some love…  Plus, they are pretty for you to have at home while you’re addressing all of those Christmas cards.  If you’re like me you are just getting them out this week, yikes!!  So when you’re feeling like you’re behind in the game it’s nice to have something pretty to look at!

Love these gorgeous cards!!

So there you have it, styling your home for the holidays has never been so easy!  Now go out there and have your home be the talk of the town this season!

xx
