Spotlight – Maslo Jewelry

I recently came across Maslo Jewelry and had to share it with you.  It’s a beautiful and modern collection that has a minimal design.  I was first drawn to Maslo Jewelry when I saw their beautiful copper pieces combined with nude and white cords.  Such simple and classic pieces that can be worn with everything but with a very unique style.  Owner Nicole Maslowski creates every piece by hand and lucky us got a Q&A with her you can read below!  Maslo is also giving a special 15% off discount for our readers till 3.1.17 with code beijos15, so get shopping!

Here I am with my Copper New Age Bracelet in Off White

How and when did Maslo begin?

Maslo Jewlery originally started in Charleston, SC, but moved to Richmond, VA in 2007, where it is currently located at her studio space in Scotts Addition.
Maslo began from an interest in what could come from a 20ft. roll of copper tubing. From there, the ideas ran wild, and the Copper Noir et Blanc line began. Starting with hand bent and hand cut pieces in copper, it grew into the desire for further colors and options. I then entered like a kid in a candy store into the amazing world of metal plating and powder coating. The options seem to be endless and that’s what Maslo likes. Giving you something classic and giving it to you in too many options to choose from-but in a good way.

Typically I gravitate towards minimal, organic and simplistic design in all aspects of my life. I searched high and low for jewelry that fit into this criteria and didn’t see anything that knocked my socks off. So what happened when I didn’t see what I wanted? I created it.

Here is Leah with her Copper New Age Bracelet in Sand

We love how you mix materials like metals, wovens and leather, how do
you get inspired with your designs?

My inspiration tends to come from all things minimal, organic and simple. I find myself always veering towards simple shapes and creating pieces that are minimalistic, functional and timeless. I’ve always been drawn to juxtaposition and how opposite materials mix. Hence the industrial organic feel.

And here is Abby wearing her New Standard Necklace in Nude with Sand

What do you consider to be THE must have piece from Maslo?

My best seller has to be the Gold Standard Necklace Off White as well as the Baseline Necklace.

What exciting things does Maslo have coming for 2017?

Great things coming in the next few months! This year will be a mix of silver and gold. Snake chains instead of cord, collars, and large earrings, while still keeping with that classic, minimal, bigger is better feel.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful work and creativity with us Nicole!!

James Michelle Jewelry Party

We recently teamed up with the always amazing James Michelle to style a special event!  Owner Jamie Israel was traveling down to Southern California from Bend, Oregon where she calls home last month and thought it was a great time to throw a little shindig and meet some of her rad clients face to face. With our always hot Indian Summer’s here in California it was the perfect excuse to get tropical for this James Michelle Jewelry party.  The party was held at Cleobella’s gorgeous Sunset Beach boutique and it was all kinds of tropical mixed with beachy cool – just what you would expect from James Michelle!  Scroll down to see how pretty this one was, and of course how adorable Jamie is!  Plus, there is a really sweet giveaway with one of the VIP swag bags on our Instagram, so don’t miss out on that!  But first, how about these pretty pics from The Dulcet Creative?!

_dulcetcreative-2083 Fox Floral Design Studio did the florals for this party and I think it’s safe to say that EVERYONE was obsessed with this tropical mandala they created!  We just through the James Michelle logo up there in the middle and they took care of the rest!  It was the perfect photo op for everyone that night, but wait till you see all of their other pretty arrangements through-out the party…

_dulcetcreative-2023-2 There’s the lady of the hour, Miss James Michelle herself!  How cute is Jamie?!  Like major girl crush over here!!  And we can vouch, she is just as genuine and sweet as she seems!

_dulcetcreative-2277 _dulcetcreative-2289 _dulcetcreative-2285-2 We had yummy little bites for everyone and of course some champs and wine!!  One Hope Wine is always the best addition to the party, and we love highlighting them with these Jen & Jules Designs Cocktail Stirrers and of course some fun signage by Blot & Dot, who did all the pretty calligraphy through-out the party…

_dulcetcreative-2048 _dulcetcreative-2183 Our favorite bar… EVER!!  Thank you Cleobella for always letting us play with this beauty!!

Spotlight – Helping Jewels

We recently discovered the prettiest jewelry line with an even prettier message and felt we had to share it with our readers!  Our buddy Meghann Miniello turned us on to Helping Jewels owned by her lovely friend Nycole Holwick.  Nycole’s story moved us and we are happy to support and share all about this company that strives to raise funds for an important cause that is dear to Nycole’s heart.  Us girls were lucky enough to work with Nycole on these gorgeous custom birthstone necklaces that represent each person in our little families… Isn’t that amazing?!  They are definitely keepsakes we will treasure always.  Scroll down to read more on Nycole and her inspiring company!

Tell us a little bit about you…

Well I am 31 and extremely grateful for my family and friends. I’m a stay-at-home-mom with three young children with my amazing husband whom I’ve been married to for 10 years! My second son had Infantile Spasms as a baby and was miraculously cured (these are seizures that stop the brain from developing and the child dies young). This completely changed my outlook on life and I appreciate the good times a lot more! My “Alice” aka soul sitter recently had to leave us…so my life got a bit more busy and loud. Rose wine always comes to the rescue on those crazy and hectic days. I love interior design, Spanish architecture, landscape design and cotton dresses. Last but not least, wine tasting might be my second favorite hobby besides jewelry making.

How and when did Helping Jewels begin?

It all started because I wanted to make some bracelets for an event to help raise money for my friend. At the time her daughter was battling bone cancer. When your child is diagnosed with a rare illness the feeling is indescribable and beyond stressful.  Experiencing this myself, I had been wanting to give to this community of parents and children for some time now. With current technologies and the help of family and friends, I decided to sell my jewelry online and donate 30% of the proceeds to the two hospitals that helped me so much and also my friends! Why not combine fashionable, high quality jewelry for a cause? Helping Jewels launched last October and has raised about $3600 up to this point for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Mattel Children’s Hospital ($1800 for each hospital).

meganwelker-august-57 meganwelker-august-60 meganwelker-august-56 meganwelker-august-63 Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

Besides raising funds and awareness of pediatric rare diseases, fashion is also a passion of mine. I always keep myself up to date by looking at the high fashion runway shows and street style. My color palettes and inspiration comes from clothes, the designers and the seasons’ trends, but also from world cultures and the earth. Quality stones and unique findings inspire me as well.

meganwelker-august-29 meganwelker-august-35 meganwelker-august-34 meganwelker-august-31 How is it being a “mompreneur”?  What are the negatives and the positives?

It is extremely difficult juggling it ALL! Nothing gets done perfectly that’s for sure, but I’m trying my best to do so. When the kids start school again I will find more Helping Jewels time. I also want to enjoy summer with them so for now things are very slow while I entertain the three ring circus. Honestly I appreciate teachers so much and all that they do. Right now the kids don’t understand what I’m doing, so they rebel when I’m not paying full attention to them. Maybe one day they will appreciate my creativity and the act of giving. The good thing is I have something now that is, well, quite selfishly…for me. It’s my creative outlet I have been needing for a while. Helping children fight rare illnesses in Southern California is an added bonus. For quite some time I’ve been searching for some way to give back to Mattel Children’s Hospital for saving my son and doing that through my jewelry is a dream come true!

Last but not least, here is Abby in her birthstone necklace, each stone represents a person in her family’s birth month…

My next step is to continue spreading the word online via Instagram and bloggers. I am working on the Fall/Winter line which I hope to launch soon pending how much of it I can juggle with the “littles”. For the month of September, I will be selling bracelets which 30% of the proceeds will go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand in honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness. My hope is more and more people discover Helping Jewels and appreciate the handmade, unique quality to my jewelry. My goal is to double or triple the amount I’ve earned since last October. I have been able to interact with amazing people with such strength yet unthinkable struggles ever since I started Helping Jewels. I’m excited to meet more amazing people along the way and maybe do some interacting with children at the hospitals. My dreams include a cure for cancer and epilepsy and getting Drew Barrymore to wear some of my jewels!

Thank you for sharing Nycole!  Head over to her shop to purchase some fun goodies for yourself and support an amazing cause!

Spotlight: Ashwood Avenue

Jewelry obsessed, we are always on the look out for those pieces that fit right into our collection. Finding unique pieces really get us excited! and Ashwood Avenue is just that. I stumbled upon Ashwood’s Instagram a couple months ago, and fell in love with their necklaces. I love natural, simple, and handcrafted jewelry…. everyday staples that make a statement. And that is exactly what Ashwood Avenue is all about. The three of us could not wait to get our hands on her wooden tassel and leather necklaces.

We chatted it up with sweet Cassy Bright, the genius behind Ashwood Avenue and peaked into her life as the creator of these beautiful handcrafted unique pieces.

How and when did you begin Ashwood Jewelry?

I officially started Ashwood in 2014, but I’ve been creating pieces long before that. I studied Art and Design while in school, and for fun I’d make necklaces from old materials I didn’t use from school projects. I’d give these necklaces to friends and family and loved the feeling of giving an item that was handcrafted and unique. After some positive feedback and a little push of confidence, I built a website and opened up shop.

What inspires your designs?
I’ve always found inspiration in using natural materials and the magic that comes with combining different textures, colors, and patterns. I love the outdoors, camping, and traveling. Whenever I’m on a trip, I bring back a piece of that place and try to apply it to my designs. When I’m hit with an idea, I try to make it as soon as possible so I don’t lose it (even if it means getting out of bed at 12:00am). The end result always ends up a little different, but you have to capture the inspiration before you lose it.
I also find inspiration from other creatives and makers. I try to attend as many talks, workshops, and gatherings as I can.
There is so much to learn from each other, it’s awesome seeing other people working hard at their craft and succeeding while doing what they love.

What has it been like to connect with your clients?
I connect with my clients through my pieces. When a customer purchases a necklace, they get a little piece of me. It’s all handmade and assembled by me in my home, even down to the packaging where I add a foliage snip of Portland pine tree to each package. Then I get to see how they wear it, use it, style it in their lives through social media, continuing the circle of spreading the good vibes I set out to create.

What is next for Ashwood Jewelry?
Many things! I’m still growing, learning, and improving with each day. I just came out with some leather and alpaca bag tassels that I’m pretty excited about. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with wedding designers for tassels on welcome bags. I love creating little details to add that extra special touch.
Starting Ashwood has been challenging at times but it also brings me so much joy. I apply kindness and compassion to my business and am so appreciative for all the support. I love collaborating with all kinds of people and I am always up for coffee if you’re ever in Portland, get in touch and we can chat!

Cassie you make gorgeous pieces and your energy and love come thru on every piece!
