National Girlfriends Day – An Interview with The Beijos Ladies

Today is a very important holiday, National Girlfriends Day!!!  This is like the holy grail of those crazy weird holidays I never knew about.  I mean really, what would any of us ladies do without our girlfriends?!  For me life wouldn’t be half as fun, that’s for sure.  I can honestly say that I think one of the best things about being a girl is just that, having girlfriends!  Guys really don’t know what they’re missing out on!

In celebration of this day I thought it would be fun for us Beijos ladies to talk about our friendships with each other.  This lets you guys learn a little bit more about each of us and how we tick.  Because let’s face it, without our friendship Beijos wouldn’t be Beijos!!

How did you meet Abby & Leah?

I met Abby my freshman year of high school, I was a public school transfer to high school and only had one friend coming into the school.  Lucky for me, her and her friends thought I was cool enough to hang out with, haha!  We’ve been friends ever since, going on over 20 years of friendship!  Leah and I met working at a boutique together right out of college.  She was actually my boss at first and sort of intimidating, but after one fateful night out we were fast friends.  Fast forward over 10 years later and we are god mothers to each others children!

Tell us something you admire about Abby…

There are lots of things I admire about Abby, one is that she is a really great mom.  She loves her kids more than anything and really tries to do her best every day for them.  Another thing I admire about her is how thoughtful she is to others.  It’s something that has stuck out to me since High School.  When we were younger she took care of a boy with special needs, which took a lot of patience and care.  She also always made an effort to visit me or keep in touch with me when I moved away for college which kept our friendship strong, something I’m really grateful for.

What is something you know about Leah that may surprise people…

Leah is very mellow and down to earth when you meet her, but this girl has a wild side!  She does not shy away from a good time!!  Something I learned the very first time we went out together on that fateful night.  I had thought, oh this girl and I probably won’t be friends, she seems kind of quiet…. Boy was I wrong when I saw her in her element!!  Although we have calmed down with having kids, I know my bestie still has it in her to get a little crazy…. In a good way!

What is something you have a girl crush on Leah for?

Well, she looks like Eva Mendes which is a huge girl crush thing right there!!  I’d also say her legs, Leah has great legs and should probably show them off more!  I also love her hair and am always envious of her clothing collection!

If the three of you were attacked in a dark alley, who would you all hide behind?

Well definitely not Abby because she’s like 5 feet tall, haha!  I think I’d be the most feisty and probably get shanked because of it.  I’m gonna have to go with Leah here because she would probably be the most level headed but also the most mama bear out of the three of us!

Who’s the Monica, who’s the Rachel and who’s the Phoebe?

I could have gone a lot of different directions here but I’m going to say Abby is the Monica – she is pretty crazy when it comes to anything she does and totally over thinks things.  I could also see Abby as a former fatty and chef because she loves food, haha!  Leah is Rachel because she has great hair, loves clothes and is super loyal.  She would be the one to work for Ralph Lauren and have a haircut everyone tries to copy.  I’m Phoebe because I think I’m the most free spirited believe it or not, and I could definitely picture myself singing Smelly Cat to a crowd… And I think I’m kind of the weirdest, haha!  One thing though, I would never run like Phoebe does, hahahahahaha!

How did you meet Jacquelyn & Leah?

I have known Jacquelyn since our freshmen year in high school. Been good buds ever since. I met Leah thru Jacquelyn during our college years (their college years, I pretended I went to college, ha! JK I did!) and became closer with her when we started Beijos.

What is your favorite memory of Jacquelyn from High School?

Loaded question! How can I possibly pick one favorite memory! I’m sure you could only imagine the trouble us two got into. Well.. I’ll 1st let you in on that we are members of the BHB club, a prestigious club we started in high school. It was a group that would gather weekly to watch and discuss a very important and groundbreaking television show… it’s called Beverly Hills, 90210. :) One of the best memories that I will let out of the vault, is that Jacquelyn has a full dance routine choreographed by herself to the popular early 2000 dance jam, the thong song.
If you could describe Leah in 3 words what would they be? Oh Leah, this girl can’t be described in three words. She is one of the best people I’m proud to call a friend. She is extremely kind, a natural perfectionist, and very reliable for always sharing a bottle of wine or two with.

What is one thing you have a girl crush on Jacquelyn for?

I have two, her hair cause it grows so freaking fast and it has a natural curl, and her lips! I have no upper lip, and she has herself a full pout that only non upper lippers could only dream about.

If you were all at a nude beach who would be the first to take the plunge?

Oh definitely Jacquelyn! Hands down. Duh.

Who’s the Brenda, who’s the Kelly and who’s the Donna?

Oh tough one. I’m gonna say I’m Brenda cause well she is has tendencies to over analyze things (guilty), and also is up for a good time! Good time Sally! Jacquelyn is totally Kelly… always thinking she is the popular one ;) , and Leah is Donna. Everyone loves her, not crazy, and always a friend you can rely on.  She basically evens outs the craziness that Brenda and Kelly can create.

How did you meet Jacquelyn & Abby?

I met Jacquelyn working at a clothing boutique in Newport when I was a youngster in my formative 20’s.  We hit it off pretty quickly and it’s been history ever since.  I met Abby through Jacquelyn, since they went to school together.  We are all pretty normal and easy going with a lot in common as far as design and taste go, so there you go… a fun loving little trio!

What is something you know about Jacquelyn that may surprise people?

She’s a total tomboy.  Yup, not afraid to play with the boys, and she’s actually better than most of them.

If you could describe Abby in 3 words what would they be?Creative, thoughtful, and an easy target for us to make fun of hehe, love you Ab!!

What is one thing you have a girl crush on Abby for?

Her ability to style food.  My god is she great at that or what?? One of the best I’ve seen right there!!

Out of the three of you, who is most likely to get lost while driving?I think Abby! haha

Who’s the Kim, who’s the Kourtney and who’s the Khloe?

I’m gonna say I’m the Kourtney, Jacquelyn is Kim and Abby is Khole.

And there you have it!  A little bit more about us, our friendship and how we tick!  Make sure you call your best girlfriends today and tell them you love them! Better yet, toast to them with a glass of wine!!  Because National Girlfriends Day is definitely Beijos approved!

Real Talk – The Latest

It’s been a while since we have done a real talk post, so today is just that.  There have been a lot of changes in all of our lives this past year.  We wanted to let you know the latest with each of us and check in with you.  Each of our little families have a lot going on, so keep reading to find out more!

Hi, friends, Abby here! My goodness, a lot has occurred in my life in the past six months. About a year ago, my husband approached me with the crazy idea to sell our home in San Jose and move up north to the Sacramento area.  This idea was coming from Mr. San Jose.  A nickname that our family and friends call my husband.  Anytime we go anywhere; there will be someone my husband knows.  When we went to Cabo for our honeymoon in 2010, he ran into two people he knew.   My first reaction was NOT happening.  No way was I going to uproot my two kids and move them where we would have no friends or family.  We live so near to some of our family, how can we go somewhere where we would have no one near us?   Needless to say, I shut that idea down fast. But he knew my weakness by showing me the custom homes.  Damnit!  He knows me too well.  Pushing this idea for several months, I finally went with him to see the model homes.  My tune had changed, and before I knew it… the for sale sign was up. This was just the easy part.

We then moved into my parent’s house, and my husband landed a great job in Sacramento.  My daughter is in 1st grade, and we couldn’t pull her out of school.  So for the past four months, I have been staying at my parents with the two little ones.  We get to see daddy for about 36 hours on the weekends.  Just that small amount of time with him has been hard for us.  We started doing family date nights when dad gets into town on Friday nights.  Something to look forward to during the week, and its a constant plan and normalcy for the kids.  It has been a hard life adjustment for us, particularly for myself.  Pretty much a single parent is some hard shit, to be honest.  You have to keep it together during this life change and show no sadness or frustration in front of the kids.  I just have to keep saying to myself, only a couple more months to go.  Abby, this will all be worth it in the end.  Will it?  Was all this worth it?  Are my kids going to transfer well to a new school and make friends?  A lot of uncertainty and the unknown has filled my head the past couple months.  I’m a worry wart!  But, I’m staying positive and very much looking forward to June. Summer can’t come soon enough for us!  I do have to say that I’m beyond excited to decorate and design our new home.  So many ideas, and can’t wait to see how it comes all together.  In the meantime, if you are local to the Rocklin area, let’s be friends!

Hey all!  So…. 2016 was a big year for the Kazas family!  Obviously, the best part of 2016 was welcoming our son Cruz!!  Adding another baby to the mix obviously makes things crazier but we had some other things going on too…  My husband Nate finally landed a job he had been working towards as a medical device sales rep at the beginning of last year.  We were beyond excited and I am still beyond proud of him.  Since then he has gotten promoted, faster than anyone in his division ever has, yes I’m bragging and I don’t care, ha!  The first year of his job was all about him dedicating all of his energy and time, which meant being on call 24/7.  This wasn’t only a sacrifice for him but for our family as well.  It’s always especially hard since we don’t have any family nearby to help us out, although we are very lucky with how often our parents visit to help us.  There I was super pregnant with a wild 2 year old spending most days and nights solo.  It got especially hard when 2 weeks before my due date he had to go to NYC for work for 10 days…. That was definitely NOT easy!  Thank god for my Mom helping out!  Needless to say, we got through that tough year and this year is looking bright!

Like I said, Nate was promoted and he’s doing really well!  He’s still gone quite a bit, but I’m being super mom holding down the fort as much as I can.  A lot of days that means doing it all – going to the grocery store with two kids, going to the park with two kids and a dog, having dinner ready, bathing both kids, putting both kids to sleep, you get where I’m going with this…  But on the really exciting front, we bought our first home!!!  We just closed escrow a few weeks ago and now we are starting to do a little bit of remodeling.  We’re working on the kitchen and a few other small things, the rest we will have to work on slowly but surely.  We are very excited to start this new chapter, our new house is about 5 miles from our current home, not too far, but still a change.  We’ll miss our amazing neighbors and being able to walk to the beach, but our new house is on a really family friendly street right next to a park and I know our boys will love it!  Right now if I’m being honest, I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed with all of the home stuff, but I know it will all work out and I’m incredibly excited to share it with you!  Stay tuned…

Hey there!  Well, I don’t have as much change going on these days other than the fact of balancing life with 3 kids, which doesn’t seem that hard when you think of it but factor in 2 of them being under 2!  Isla just turned 20 months a few weeks ago and Henry 6 months.  I know it should get easier as they get older but right now it’s all hands on deck.  I’m lucky my husband is able to work from home a lot, so he helps me!!  There are times when I’m alone with all three of them and it’s no joke!! My daughter Edie is turning 5 soon and she is a big help to mommy and daddy with the babies, but she is a little girl herself that needs attention and time, so it all has to be taken in and divided up equally right??  Haha let’s just say I live a life of exhaustion, but I guess I don’t harp on that as much because these little beings show me what life is all about everyday and I’m so beyond grateful for them!!

The other thing that is exciting is that I’m busy with Beijos!!  Us Beijos gals put in a collaborative effort in our own way and time to make it what it is and I’m super proud of what it’s become and growing to be.  I love all of our clients, and can’t wait for their events to come to fruition this year and of course share them with you all!!  Sorry I don’t have more to dish but hey life is steady and good!

More to come!!  Head to our Instagram for 5 fun facts about each of us today!

Meet the Beijos Gals – Vol 2

We had so much fun introducing ourselves to you guys a couple months back that we wanted to tell you more.  Plus to all the newer followers we have out there, thanks for following along and here’s who we are behind all the pretty staged stuff…

Hi I’m Abby, I’m loyal, creative, and free spirited

I love being barefoot all the time. Regardless of what is under my feet, I’m barefoot. I’m allergic to grass and its my favorite to be barefoot on… thank goodness for allergy meds. I love having fresh flowers in my house all the time, it makes me feel happy. Even when I’m having a bad day, looking at them just makes me feel better. Its my happy treat for myself. I LOVE LOVE cheese. A day in a cheese shop is like I won the lottery, you get to try cheeses as long as your little  heart desires or until they get tired of you. One small slight issue… I’m extremely lactose intolerant. So its a bit of a tease… lets not joke, its just flat out hell! Thank god for lactose pills! Which I get shipments of so I can carry out my cheese shop dreams. I rely on a lot of pills to get me thru my happy times haha.

I hate when people swirl their drinks when ice is in it. It literally drives me insane. My husband loves to do it, and when we are in a movie before the move starts is when he does it a lot. I often have to count silently in my head to calm my chi. I hate wearing closed toed shoes, they make me feel like claustrophobic. When I do, no socks are involved, and that’s just more torture for my feet. I think I own maybe two pair of socks. When I do wear closed toed shoes which is usually sneakers or boots, its not for very long. I hate an empty glass of vino. Who doesn’t.

In my past life I definitely was a hippie. I have way too many hippie tendencies that I have had since I was little.

My biggest accomplishments are my two babes, Dylan and Jett. Best thing I have done and probably will ever do is to have had them and get to be their mom.

ET scares me to death… no explaining cause the vision will be in my head all day.

Hi, I’m Jacquelyn, I’m adventurous, passionate, and thoughtful

I love to chant, I’ll jump in on any chant but a good standby is USA! USA! USA!  I also love soup, if it’s on the menu I will generally have it.  My Avó always made the best soups and now my mom makes my favorites, one of these days I’ll have to carry on the tradition but as for now I’ll just eat them :)  I love watching sports!  My husband hit the jackpot with me… I would prefer to watch a baseball game on tv then a sitcom.

I hate cheese – yes, I know that’s weird – I will eat cheez-its, cheetos, and goldfish crackers but if it’s any type of REAL cheese, it tastes like my barf.  I also hate when people don’t say please or thank you, mind your manners friends!  My husband hates when I correct him, “you mean PLEASE pass the remote?”, that one always gets a good eye roll.  I also hate horror movies, why do they have to make SO many all the time?!

In my past life I was a street bull fighter in Portugal… I have a flair for the dramatic and I love attention so this would be my greatest role, haha! I ran with the bulls once in the streets of Angra, the city my dad was born, and the adrenaline rush was crazy… I’m one of those people who will usually take a dare, and I also love being Portuguese so it makes sense.  Also, they don’t kill the bull in Portugal so I’m still PC, hooray :)

My greatest accomplishment is of course being a mom!  It’s the hardest and most fulfilling job I’ve ever had, and I love it.

I’m scared to death of moths and rats… The thought/sight of them freaks me the F out…

Hi, I’m Leah, I’m dependable, caring and always up for a good time!

I love a clean house, this quite possibly could make me the happiest, haha!!  My favorite day is when I get my house cleaned.  Now if I could only get my husband to really understand this love….I love new adventures, and days with no agenda. Like going to places I’ve never been before from exploring new cities to going to the new shop or restaurant that opened down the street that everyone is talking about. I love coffee.  I love the smell, I love the caffeine push, I love the taste and I need it every morning, even when I’m prego I drink decaf to keep sane.I hate when people say they are going to do something and don’t do it, or say it will be done by a certain time and it doesn’t get done.  Big pet peeve of mine!! I take your word for things people!! Get it done!! I hate plain water, I have to have it flavored with lemon or make it into crystal light, haha!  I don’t know why??  I have a hard time drinking if there is no flavor involved.  I hate things like hugging sweaty people, or shaking clammy hands and even wet dog kisses. Nope not for me…just gross.

In my past life I was Serena from Gossip Girl.  Ummmm how fab would it be to be her??  Yup, upper East side, super rich, and major shopping sprees’s.  Love that show and love her, so yes I was her in my past life.

My biggest accomplishments are my littles.  Not to sound redundant, but when you have kiddos, I think everyone can agree that this is just the best thing and hardest, and you can’t imagine doing life without it!!

I’m scared to death of  snakes.  Just get away, never cross my path.  I will just want to die.

Hope you enjoyed all these new little facts about us, now tell us something about you!!  We love getting to know new people!!

Xx Leah

Facts – Meet the Beijos Gals

Here we go…Well we’ve been “Beijos Events” for some years now, planning parties, blogging and all the while having some fun . Work… fun… yeah why not mix it up a little, after all this work is fun!  But who are these Beijos girls really?? We thought it would be fun to let you peek into our lives personally because it’s adds some character to the people you see and know on social media.  These days that’s huge, so many relationships start that way, I mean…we’ve gotten a little dependent on it right?  We’ve been introduced and gotten to know so many impressive people through it and we just cherish when they let us in a little more.  We live for the “Ah Ha” moments and silly little idiotic ones too, after all…they are what shape us and it’s pretty darn refreshing and fascinating when you get to know new people.

Anyway, here’s a little about us…

My name is Leah…

Some fun facts are…

My favorite color is WHITE!  Is that a color?? Don’t really care, it’s my fave. White everything, I’m a happy girl.

My favorite thing to do when I’m rarely alone is shop, in this order…for my girls, for my home, for myself, and for my hubs…so babe, lol. The shopping day would have a perfect twist with a glass of wine at every stop…yes I’m a wino too!

I’m not a fan of peanut butter…yes I know, that’s SO weird.  Ever since I was little I didn’t like it.

I’m a people pleaser, and I love it, although sometimes it bites me and I feel over committed because I have a hard time saying no.  I wanna do it all!! What’s wrong with that??

I’m an old cat lady…love my kitties.  I’ve never had the pleasure of having one love me back though…haha!  Sadly I’m a little smothering and they tend to want to keep their distance.  I see it in my daughter Edie too, she’ll be a smothering cat lady too.

This is Abby…

Fun facts include…

Her favorite color is WHITE, but really likes the BLACK/WHITE combo.

Her favorite thing to do when she’s rarely alone is not be alone…haha, she likes her girl time at a wine bar of course!

She doesn’t like the movie ET..Yeah, so don’t talk about it, don’t point your finger, and don’t give her Reese’s Pieces.

She tells everyone she named her daughter Dylan after Bob Dylan, but her hubs Mike tells everyone the truth, that she was named after the beloved Dylan Mckay of 90210. Who can blame a gal??

She has a cray cray obsession with Jared Leto, why not??

Here’s Jacquelyn…

Some fun facts…

Her favorite color is YELLOW!!  Bright and happy like the shinning sun.

Her favorite things to do when she’s rarely alone going on walks with her pretty little black lab Dolly, or watch bad TV…Her current obsession is the OJ Simpson show.  Oh, and always with wine and ice cream when necessary!

She was captain of her high school soccer team when they were….#1 in the country!! Oh yeah…she’s kind of a bad ass!

When she was in the 3rd grade she loved the movie “Mermaids” so much she begged her mama to let her chop her hair like Wynona Ryder’s and she did… and she LOVED it!  To this day that soundtrack is one of her faves!  And she loves Cher… I mean who doesn’t??

She loves animals, but she’s always been terrified of goats due to being attacked by a group of them as a small child while at a petting zoo.  Literally her mama turned her head for a second and they swarmed her!!  Poor thing…she’s recently had to overcome her fear for her son Court, but she will never leave him alone with goats…Never!

Here we are all together…

Some fun facts are…

Our favorite Emoji’s to use:

Jacquelyn’s imgres-1 Roll Eye

Abby’s angry-emoji Angry

Leah’s imgres Flushed Face

None of us went to school for event design – Leah has a business degree and her MBA, Abby went to school for Interior Design, and Jacquelyn majored in Drama…Typical.

Did you notice the wine theme with all of our alone time facts?? Well we are no stranger to it!  Unfortunately we’ve only been able to drink wine together ONCE!  What the heck you say?  Yes, because one of us is always pregnant!!

There’s a good start for ya!  We’ll keep you in the loop as we think of more… and as we cross the paths of all of you incredible people we would love to get to know more about!
