Mother’s Day Cocktail

You know Mother’s Day isn’t complete without us featuring a cocktail for you! Champagne always seems to be the answer for this special mama day. My husband always serves me a little mimosa every Mother’s Day with guava juice. It’s my favorite. Give me anything guava! I wanted to jazz up that idea and take it to the next level by adding some orange liquor. Now, speaking of guava, have you tried the mochi balls at Whole Foods? Oh, my goodness, the guava, and passionfruit are my favorite. If wasn’t lactose intolerant, I would consume those every day. I would serve this cocktail with a mochi ball, cause why not? It’s all about you on this day, why not have ice cream for breakfast. I have no shame in doing it. This recipe is my take on a POG (Passion, orange, and guava) mimosa.

Mother’s Day Guava Sparkling Cocktail

1-ounce guava nectar
1-ounce passion fruit juice
1ounce Grand Marnier (or orange liqueur such as Triple Sec, Cointreau)
3 ounces sparkling rose wine

This cocktail really couldn’t be any more straightforward. Just add all ingredients into a beautiful coupe and serve. I like to put my juices and champagne in the freezer for a bit, that way its super cold. Simply pour, and add a lovely flower.

Now, I tested this out yesterday, and it was pretty good. I took the mochi balls, the guava and passionfruit flavor, and trimmed off the outer layer. I then cubed up the balls and placed them in the juice. Next, either blend or just shake hard for a couple of seconds. This action will melt the ice cream into the juice and orange liquor. But remember to not add the sparkling rose into there! It will explode all over you. Little surprise treat!

Happy early Mother’s Day!

A picnic for Mother’s Day

When I think of celebrating Mother’s Day, I think of brunch. Since my kids were little, my husband has always made it extra special in the morning with either going out to brunch where we got married in Santa Cruz or having breakfast in our backyard. But just like any other holiday you will be fighting crowds in a restaurant or an afternoon of cleaning up at home. Sorry excuse me, the males will be spending their afternoon cleaning up while you make sure they don’t miss any spots from your comfy couch.

Instead, head out into the spring sunshine for a quiet picnic brunch with the people you love. I love this idea of doing a picnic at your local park, I’m not sure why this idea hasn’t popped into my head before. Tons of room for the kids to run while Mom and Dad hang back and watch from afar while sipping on my champagne and yummy nibbles. Sounds like a perfect Mother’s day to me! Now, if I were you I would leave this page open on your computer and direct your hubby or loved one towards all the pretty, so they get that subtle hint of what Sunday should consist of. If they don’t catch on, don’t be upset… they probably won’t… just do what I would. Pack up all the stuff, write up that grocery list, and put it right next to the front door.

What about throwing a little Mother’s Day brunch bash for just your girlfriends and you? Could you get that many mamas out of the house at the same time? That always seems to be the issue with my besties. A laid back and most importantly quiet morning with your favorite ladies celebrating you! Go ahead and Spoil Yo Self!

I’m currently obsessed with layering vintage rugs any chance that I can get. Secondly, anything rattan! Lauren, the babe behind Cultivate Rentals based out of Santa Cruz, made all my rug + rattan dreams come true with her goodies. I might not give them back to her. Sorry, Lauren! Alongside, she had dreamy leather poufs and sheepskin to add more layer. This was one dreamy setting to add my favorite Little Market items too.

White + Gold Flatware | Dusty Pink Plates

This picnic was all about relaxing and spoiling yourself. I took The Little Market’s Rose Soaking Salt and placed a little pile on each plate for the guest’s name to sit on. Each guest went home with their own bottle, can’t let the day go away without a relaxing bath!

Napkins | Placemats | Wooden Chargers

This arrangement from Busy Bee Florals is gorgeous! Those claire delune peonies mixed in with those dusty rose pink roses… I could just stare all day. Sitting on a pretty rattan tray on top of layered vintage rugs really make those colors pop!

Pillows and extra blankets are a must for picnics. Toss them around your eating area for your guests to lounge and relax on. Have you seen Little Market’s new pillows? Check them out here. There are some great neutral and colorful patterns you can mix into your home. Don’t forget your Gunn Swain Blankets too! Right now, they are having a sale! Buy one blanket and get the other half off! What a deal!

Our pal, the one and the only mama of the year, Meghann Miniello created these fun triangle acrylics for each guest’s place setting. You know what I love about acrylic, is you can write on it and then wash it off after and reuse for another event. Create timeless shapes and colors and keep on hand for any type of holiday or even when you are just having some pals over. A fun detail touch that will certainly go far in your guest’s eyes.

One dreamy picnic that any Mother would want to join! So who is with me and doing this Sunday morning?!?

Special thanks to all these beautiful ladies!

Happy Sunday! I thought this would be the perfect chance to chat decor for the best and most celebrated holiday… Mothers Day! YAY! Mother’s Day is always a big holiday in my family. With it right next to my birthday, May 11, my sisters birthday, May 10, and lastly my grandma’s birthday May 15th, we do a big celebration each year. When I was little, my world would be upside down when I had to share my birthday with other people. How dare my sister be born the day before! Now, as a mom myself, I love when the whole family gets together. Our little celebration party will usually take place as my aunts by the pool, where if we are lucky the weather will be nice for all the little ones to swim. This year, I wanted to help out with table decor. Any sort of event with several people, you don’t want to break the bank. I found some great affordable items from my favorite Target and my Best Friend, Amazon. So, ladies and even you gentlemen take note. Surprise mom with a pretty in pink table that will put even a bigger smile on her face for Mother’s Day.

Let’s start with the everyday basics that build any tablescape. I like to have some white plates, fun flatware, and colored glassware around the house to build a table setting for any occasion. When I saw these Dwell Modern Studio Stoneware Glazed Plates from Target, I had to buy them! Add to cart, yes please! Pretty amazing plates! I’m buying a couple of sets at a time currently to act as my everyday plates. If I were you, I would get these babies before I take them all! I also have these dusty rose ceramic plates that I got from Urban Outfitters that I will be putting on top of the white plate. It is always fun to layer your plates.  Any entertainer should have a classic champagne coupe in their collection, and I found these pretty ladies on Amazon, see them here. Since it will be brunch, I love these peach juice tumblers  to add to the table for juice. Add texture with a fringe placemat, and what I love about this one is that I can use these every day as well. Always a winner in my book when I can reuse my table setting items. Pop in some color and pattern with Threshold’s Pink Medallion Napkin. Love fun napkin holders? You will love this braided jute one. It reminds me of my macrame weavings; I love adding a little boho touch. Lastly, my favorite the new flatware I’m obsessed with. This modern white and gold flatware I got on Amazon, and it was one of the best purchases! A little pricey, but so worth it!

As you can see, all these items you can totally use again and for any occasion. I always say when you purchase items like these, try to think of at least three different ways or occasions you can use them for. If you can, then it warrants its purchase right?!

Now let’s talk flowers. Any Mother’s Day table needs pretty flowers in the middle. I love this DIY flower arrangement recipe from The House that Lars Built. I think it’s always a special touch when you do the flowers yourself, put some love and pride into making this table special for the mama in your life.

Some fun inspiration for next Sunday if you ask me! This will surely put a smile on your favorite Mama!

I added a couple more goodies that I love as well!

I don’t know about you, but when I think of Spring I think of pastels…  I love wearing pastels and have spotted quite a few amazing dresses in them lately.  Another thing I love about Spring are all the amazing holidays… One in particular that holds a big spot in my heart is Mother’s Day.  My family makes every holiday big, and Mother’s Day is no exception.  We usually get in our Sunday best and do some type of brunch or dinner to celebrate.

So with that in mind, I’ve been looking at some fun new dresses to wear!  Here are a few of my favorites below.  These could also be worn all season long and into Summer…  And of course I made it super easy for you to shop the post at the bottom!

I basically love anything Mara Hoffman and this dress caught my eye right away.  It’s a little bit more classic than I usually go with what I wear, but the colors and fit of it look amazing.  To me, this is the ultimate Spring look.

We talked about how the off the shoulder trend is huge and one of our favorites in this post.  I love how this dress by Somedays Lovin is such a neutral color that is somewhat of a basic, but it’s also the trend of the moment.  Plus the price is great!!

Both Abby and I have our eyes on this pretty dress by Auguste… I just love love the print, this is a dress I would wear everyday into the Summer!  I’m a HUGE yellow fan and this pale creamy yellow with the pretty florals is just the prettiest.  I just need to get me a tan and buy this thing!

So continuing with my yellow obsession…  Haha!  I can’t help myself!  Spell is one of my favorite brands right now…  Each season their collections get better and better.  This Spring I literally want every single piece and this dress is one of them!

Last but not least, it wouldn’t be me unless I threw in a sexy little short number… Gotta throw it out there once and a while ladies!!  There is so much about this Lovers + Friends dress that I love… From the fringe to the stripes to the delicate straps, all I would need is a pair of sandals, and that hat the model is wearing isn’t too bad either!

Do you have some shopping inspiration now?!  I know I do… Like I said, you can shop the post here!

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

One of my favorite holidays is right around the corner, Mother’s Day!  It’s the day to show your mama how much you love and appreciate her, and I can’t think of someone who deserves affection more.  Since we are mother’s ourselves we really look forward to this day to focus on family and reflect on what really matters.  I put together this Mother’s Day Gift Guide for you, because it’s never too early to start thinking about what to get her!  Plus, I made it super easy for you to shop these items at the bottom of this post!  So keep scrolling for all the details!

One thing that I always want as a mother myself is some good relaxing time… Some time to myself, even if it is just an hour!  So a massage from my friend Melody at Here & Now Massage is a definite must!  You can read more about her from our post earlier this week, but she is doing an amazing Mother’s Day special… A free upgrade to a 75 minute massage with the purchase of an 1 hour massage gift certificate.  Now that will definitely make Mama happy!!

Continuing with the relaxing trend, our friends at The Little Market have the prettiest and yummiest bath salts.  These are great to give along with the massage and encourage the busy Mom in your life to take a break.  They also have great spa gift sets if you want to really spoil her!  And this pretty robe by Eberjey is simple and sweet, something for relaxing time and something she will use day after day!

Other items for Mom?  Accessories are always a great and easy gift!  I don’t know about you but buying clothes can be tough with sizing and all, so accessories are just a no brainer.  I’m in love with this Mar Y Sol Tulum tote, the perfect Mom bag for Summer to fit all her “stuff”.  I’m a fan of anything blush and these Raen Torrey sunglasses along with the Cleobella Sevigny clutch gave me major heart eyes.

I just got this Brixton Small Plans Fedora and these Vanessa Mooney Astrid earrings myself and can’t recommend them enough!  Every one needs a good Summer hat, and when you’re a busy mom at the park with your kiddos it’s nice to keep the sun out of your eyes and your skin safe.  Plus, it’s super cute!  Statement earrings are big for Spring/Summer and these make a statement with out being obnoxious.  They are pretty, feminine and perfect for Mom.

Last but not least is this amazing book, Eat Beautiful by Wendy Rowe.  The older I get the more I want to take care of myself, especially my skin.  I’m sure most women feel the same way.  This book details how specific ingredients feed your skin, offering breakdowns of the vitamins and nutrients they provide.  Plus, the pink and rose gold on the cover are real pretty to look at!  Haha!  But seriously, my own Mom is always looking for new recipes to try so I know a gorgeous cookbook would be a great gift for her.

Now don’t forget to spoil that special Mom in your life this year, plan ahead because Mother’s Day will be here before you know it!
